I was wondering how a practised X for the mind blade would impact the game.

Something like +4 to your Soul knife levels (to a max of your HD) for determining mind blade +enhancement value and +x mind blade value.

(Other wise as per standard practised feats)

Good / bad / fugly?

Alternative - paladins have the 'Devoted' feats and monks the 'Ascetic' feats, why not have the 'Soulful' feats for the soul-knife?

Soulful Psychic Warrior
Requisites: Manifest soul blade, at least one level of Psychic Warrior.
The character may stack levels of psychic warrior with levels of soulknife to determine their base enhancement to their soul blade.

I believe there is already something like that in the soulknife books from Dreamscarred Press (http://dreamscarredpress.com/dragonfly/Store.html) like this (http://dreamscarredpress.com/dragonfly/Store/product/pid=23.html) one.

MIND BLADE KENSAI [Psionic]
Your mind blade continues to improve despite the following of a different path.
Prerequisite: Psychic strike +1d8
Benefit: Add four to your effective soulknife level for the purposes of determining your mind blade’s enhancement bonus and the mind blade enhancement class feature, to a maximum of your character level.
The increased effective level stacks where applicable to the increase in effective soulknife level from prestige classes (see Chapter 5: Prestige Classes).
Special: If you take levels in a class that provides similar abilities, such as the Enlightened Protector (see chapter 5), the extra levels stack where applicable.

Other books, specifically this (http://dreamscarredpress.com/dragonfly/Store/product/pid=8.html) book and this (http://dreamscarredpress.com/dragonfly/Store/product/pid=22.html) one, may have some stuff you'd be interested in as well.

Mmm...I like this idea. A lot. It's both flavorful and crunchy. The downside would be unless you take 5 or more Soulknife levels, you're stuck with a shortsword.

The reason paladins and monks have those feats is because of the classes' inherent multi-classing restrictions. The soulknife has no hard restriction, but it might as well since it's so hard to multiclass without losing any and all effectiveness.

Check out High Psionics: Soulknives from Dreamscarred Press. It has [KENSAI] feats that increase your abilities and the enhancement bonus. The in-progress web enhancement in the Third Eye forum even has feats to help make up for lost class abilities like Shape Mind Blade. And finally, Mind Blade Feats from the Mind Unveiled line gives a way to add a mindblade to many different classes via a feat.

While Dreamscarred Press stuff is absolutely amazing, it's not "official"--however, Dragon has a Practiced Mindblade feat, plus some other good soulknife feats, in issue 341.

Well that's the price you pay - you can't have everything for nothing. I think a Soulknife/Monk with a feat would be interesting, to me the soulknife's use of armour always seemed odd - I'd have thought they could have used their mind as their armour as well. I did build a kalashtar soulknife/psion as an experiment, and using offensive precognition, force screen and inertial armour suddenly made the soulknife rather effective ...

Heh, heh... The Soul Bastion, in the Dreamscarred Press Soulknives supplement, is great for that. And with the KENSAI feats and the web enhancement, you really can almost freely multiclass between the two without losing out on enhancements. Of course, if your DM decides that Soulknife precludes Soul Bastion or vice versa, there's always the Soul Armor feats...
