Im playing telepath, for the first time, and i have run out of feats i want . which i found surprising, considering the gold that exists out there. my current feats are:

psionic endowment + greater
psionic penetration
Psionic body
Over channel
Psionic meditation

this at level 6 (we use flaws)

Im thinking of taking talented for my next feat, but Im not sure where to go from there. greater psionic penetration seems like a dud as i cant see any time id rather use that over greater psionic endowment. there is the possibility of retraining out of some of my current feats, if necessary.

thanks in advance for your input.

What's the race & role play perspective? (e.g. sneaky mind controller etc)
What powers are you packing? You may find some powers benefit from different meta-psi feats.

Otherwise the below may be of interest :

Craft Universal item - cheaper goods are always useful.
Expanded knowledge (Energy Missiles), a good staple offensive power.
Pet rock (AKA Psicrystal affinity), bonus feats & company if nothing else.
Exp Know (EM) + Empower power + Metapsionic Mastery(*1) (Empowered EM) = (~Free +50% to EM)
Burrowing power (I Energy ball the other side of the door :))
Combat manifestation (Or Skill focus(Concentration)) is pretty staple.

Though I agree - for a TP, Endowment is more useful than penetration.

1: The one that allows you to augment 1 power with a fixed MPF at -2 pp cost

Psicrystal Affinity and various Expanded Knowledge feats (Metamorphosis, Energy Missile, Clairvoyant Sense, whatever) would keep me occupied for a while.

I've decided to dabble in Incarnum, myself - a soulmeld that boosts the DCs of all telepathic powers is nothing to sneer at (MoI web enhancement, where the rest of the psionic-related soulmelds are). Also, expending your psionic focus to maximize the essentia in a soulmeld/feature can give you a lot more kick than psionic endowment in certain cases. I may or may not get 2 levels of incarnate and go for Soul Manifester.

I know you only asked about feats, but have you considered PrCs? I understand Thrallherd to be a natural follow on for a telepath. If only for for the 2 telepath staple powers and the 2 pet tanks / fire support / skill monkey / artificer / what ever :)

As you've mentioned it's your first telepath, have you thought much about play style?

I've got one lined up for an up & coming campaign who plans on dominating attacking creatures where he can, getting info out of them and doing the dirty work (trap "disposal", scouting, dying etc) for him.

That said, along with the accompanying cleric / oracle divining every 5 minutes will probably cause the DM to develop a severe nervous twitch as we get complete maps & plots out of the baddies & deities :)

Burrowing Power and Expanded Knowledge (clairvoyant sense); take control of their minds before you even enter the room.

Thanks for the feed back every one.

looking forward a bit, burrowing power sounds like a great idea. i could use that third eye (something) from MIC to look behind doors, and take control of anyone/everyone without placing myself in danger. sounds good!

Im not thinking of taking thrall herd, A: because i really don't like losing manifester levels, and B: because me group/dm will freak out and C: because i really don't want to have to worry about extra characters with feats, powers etc etc. having said that., if i did, i would just go for a bunch of psions who all had that bestow power power, to transfer power points to me at the start of the day, then chill for the rest.

as for expanded power, energy misiles might be a wise investment, but im really not a damage dealer, ad as we ahve a ninja, rogue, swashbuckler (who does a whole heap of damae) and a blaster based warlock, im really not that worried about extra damage.

i am looking at filing the role you stated dracopheonix, using my thralls to do any thing and everything none of the party want to do.

Any more advice would be appreciated, and i thank you all fr your help

Glad we could help & thanks for the extra info.

You're probably right about not needing to be the main damage dealer, so a feat for it may not be desirable, but I've found the mutli-targeting, ref for half a good staple (and frequently, my only energy damage power).
But it would be unwise to not pack anything - a near tpk leaving you against something with a high will save could result in a complete tpk.

If you are planning on getting your new found "friends" to help you guys stay nice and safe, it might be wise to make a check list of questions to ask them (hand the card to the DM) and make a note of when the power will expire. Then it's a case of 10mins before either asking them to fail a save or close their eyes.

You'll probably want to IC/OC explain to the party what you'll do, you don't want them to pulp the guy most useful to you.

Found one of the threads on dominate & it's uses : Here (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=945489)

Why will the DM freak out over TH? Might want to run your near perpetual domination of baddies past him just in case he will find it just as bad. Better to allay fears & change plans now rather than after the 10th fighter with an amazingly high will save.

Also consider indirect methods of control - suggestion to remove someone before the fight (you'd be amazed how fast some one with (suggested) diarrhoea will run to the privvy), leaving you one less person to deal with (for at least 10 mins :). Or attraction before you try to smooth talk the guards.

That "3rd Eye thing" costs a pretty penny - 24k IIRC, so you're not getting that any time soon. But yes, dead handy for the "or obvious location" clause. You may also find the DM/Rules have a bit of debate on the ability to target in such a fasion, but it's late, so I'm not going to look into it.

And remember, above all else, a dominated enemy is just for Christmas, not life.

DracoPhoenix:

TH is a problem because it will slow down game play too much. even if i only use the two cohorts i get, we still end up dealing with two extra set of actions. so TH is definitely out.

as for dominate and it relative power within out game, the dm has let me use psionic suggestion to convince enemies that "the time for rebellion is now, we have struck down some of your commanders, now you and your goblin brethren can rise up and reclaim your place as kings of the tribe" or conversely " your minions plot against you, and [plan an uprising. join with us and we can quell them before they begin" along with relevant bluff and knowledge checks. this has allowed me to turn enemies upon each other, and dominate will only make that easier.

since reading this thread, i am once again torn by which eats to take, and i dont think EK: energy issiles is going to make it. whilst it is definitely one of the better damage powers available, i think if im ever stuck against the one big bad evil guy, energy ray will sufice.

As for psion dominate being for christmas, not for life, i totally agree. just a few days ago, e came across some enslaved ogres that were forced to guard the treasures in the next room. my plan was to charm them and have the hep us against the hobgoblins and bugbears that enslaved them, but unfortunately they didn't speak common. (cursed natural 1 on my knowledge: Nature. if id rolled better, id have know that). Anyway, there tends to be some way that i can charm/suggest/dominate the creatures in dudgeons to my advantage in most of the scenarios we end up i, and i really think if i end up on my own against the high will save big bad evil guy, i have failed as a telepath, and deserve to die

thanks again for all your help

Glad we could help, I agree, crowd control roles like telepaths do have the nice bench mark of "If I'm in combat, I've done it wrong" :)

Regarding languages, it may well be worth getting tounges, a item with a similar effect or pumping skill points to learn languages.

The only (cheap) power I can think of to let you communicate telepathically is mindlink - but that's willing targets only.

That said.... I wonder if the DM would allow the use of mind probe (language independent) to learn languages. There doesn't appear to be a limit on the quantity of information you can absorb in one round, or level of retention / detail.

So:

R1 : "What language do you speak?"
R2 : "What are the visual & phonetic alphabets of your language?"
R3 : "What are the syntax & semantic structures of your language? Including exceptions."
R4 : "What is your language's lexicon, with spellings, pronunciations & meanings? Include any colloquial and dialect specific words & phrases."

Or is that just "no?" :)

When you do decide on feats, don't try to do too many things at once - or you'll end up botching all of them. Pick one "aspect" of it and work on that. There's always psychic reformation (if your DM doesn't allow retraining).

If you're checking out EK feats, make sure you look closely at the seer list, especially. It's great for offense, defense, and reconnaisance. After all, if you have second chance activated, you can easily reroll 1s on skill checks.

Also check out the egoist list (primarily for combat, if the manure hits the windmill), the kineticist list (for controlling foes that are immune to [Mind-Affecting] effects - not just for direct damage), the nomad list (for getting where you want to go, or where your enemies don't), or the shaper list (for utility purposes and an all-purpose bodyguard).

You can also look around at the psychic warrior list, but I don't think there's much for you to muck around with, there. :D
