Hey I am making my first psionic character. I am looking at doing either nomad or shaper...... still undecided on that part. Well I wanted to know what are the default feats for any character to be useful and I am not to sure on what everyone else is making but our dm is good about filling in gaps so we can create character we want to play. Also...... this is probably going to cause debate but whats a good default race I was thinking human but our dm doesnt care if we fudge LA's of +2 or less

My opinion, Elan Shaper as I'm a big fan of all the Crystal damage power and the Astral Construct. I like to take Psionic Body because those extra HP help and they can add up fairly fast early on when you need them, that and Psicrystal Affinity.

Choice of primary discipline depends on what you want to do with the character and what role you intend to play in the party. Do you want to be a blaster, a trickster, a communicator, a spy, or something else. The characters making up the rest of the party should also be taken into account.

For feats, select by party role as well (and by future PrC choice, if any). Many take Psicrystal Affinity at first level (the Alertness and skill bonus may keep you alive) but you can skip this one if you don't want a pet rock. You can also pick it up later. Overchannel is popular, but only take it if you have selected powers that can be augmented or for which a manifester level boost makes a difference. If you take Overchannel then you almost have to take Talented to survive the use of your own feat at lower levels.

I am not a big fan of Psionic Body, unless you plan on loading up on other psionic feats (metapsionic and item creation feats don't grant bonus hit points). It just makes you a better punching bag without helping you to dish out the hurt. You aren't a melee type, so instead of spending a feat to be able to stand there and get hacked up for an extra round or two, take Overchannel, Empower Power, Boost Construct, or something else that will let you blow something away before it is close enough to hurt you. If you are really expecting to get into melee then Vigor does the job better and doesn't cost you a feat. If you do take Psionic Body then plan on reforming it away once you are better able to defend yourself with powers; in the long run it is your powers not your hit point total that is your best defense.

Race: Human, Elan, Kalashtar if you are playing in Eberron.

I guess I should mention that my DM lets Metapsionic feat count for Psionic Body. Made that house rule quite some time ago and forgot it was a house rule. :pumpkin:
