getting through a prismatic sphere [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-23-07, 04:40 PM I got stuck trying to get through a prismatic sphere and I didn't have a rod of cancellation so I manifested the following energy cone [cold] (crown of fiery ruin)+control air (augmented to 50 mph)+psionic disintegrate+passwall from my ring of elemental command (earth)+energy missile (sonic(crown))+control light+dispel psionics and the DM allowed me to use this stuff to get rid of it. However, can such a barrier be removed with a time hop temporarily or could I get to the creature inside with a burrowing power swarm of crystals? Are there other ways I could have gotten around it?

04-23-07, 05:07 PM Time Hop wont work on the Sphere itself....it is a Spell Effect...not a Creature or Object...notice:
Targets: One Medium or smaller creature, or one object weighing 300 lb. or less

but Burrowing Power should Work....similar to Wall of Force for DC(or Higher if your DM wants)

as for what you used to imitate these spells:

Cone of cold,Gust of wind,Disentigrate,Passwall,Magic missile,Daylight,Dispel magic

04-23-07, 05:25 PM There's a set of gear in the Magic Item Compendium, it's pretty nifty for casters and each piece grants immunity to one color of a prismatic effect. I suppose you could modify it to work for a psion instead of a mage depending on your DM's leniency.

04-23-07, 06:36 PM Well, thx for the responses. I was really hoping time hop would solve it but it seems that won't be happening. If wizards does release some new stuff for psions in the future, one of those things should be disjunction.

provided you can make it thru all the way...if you miss your save the Violet color doesnt hurt you....it sends you to another Plane...
Violet 7th Energy field destroys all objects and effects.
Creatures sent to another plane (Will negates).

04-24-07, 08:57 PM Unless one is completely indifferent toward inerplanar travel, one may assume that it's either a harmful or helpful effect, either of which Timeless Body will prevent.

Even so, that clause is superceded by a subsequent sentence in the power description, stating that it negates all "attacks and powers". Thanks to psionics/magic transparency, the Prismatic Sphere spell is treated as a power for the purposes of its interaction with the Timeless Body power.

04-24-07, 09:05 PM Exactly. The way I read it, absolutely nothing can affect you while under the effects of Timeless Body. It is an incredibly powerful effect... especially if you manifest it using your Schism mind. :P

04-25-07, 01:47 PM Could you not also use Dimensional Anchor to avoid the Plane Shift effect?

I'd just been wondering if this was something you could combine with Ethereal Jaunt to hugely extend it's duration.

Manifesting Timeless Body with your Schism mind (pre-Epic) would require a level 20 Nomad (or other Psion who has been the subject of Psychic Chirurgery) with Overchannel, or a level 18 Wilder who has been the subject of Psychic Chirurgery, since it's a level 9 Nomad power and the Schism mind has -6 ML. On the other hand, while Timeless Body can't be Quckened, nothing stops you from Quickening a different power, and Schism can still produce a variety of other useful effects at level 17, even without Overchanneling.

You're right. I was confused, because the only psion I've ever played is a Nomad.
