A number of people have noted that the Psychic Warrior class seems very well balanced with the exception that it could use some more power points per day. This is my attempt to address that issue. I’ll list the basic power and then some of my thought processes on it and would appreciate feedback to try and make it balanced.

Martial Mind
Psychometabolism
Level: Psychic Warrior 1
Display: Visual
Manifesting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: 1 minute/level
Power Points: 1

Your martial prowess becomes a source of power for your mind. For every 10 points of cumulative melee or ranged damage you cause while the power is active, you regenerate 1 pp up to your daily maximum. Only damage caused by natural weapons, melee weapons, or ranged weapons is counted. This includes ability and enhancement bonuses but not psionic or magical effects.

Augment: If you spend an additional 6pp this power can be manifested as a swift action.

Notes:

I wanted the power to be useful over the entire course of a character’s career so making it a level 1 power was a must. Since one of the big limitations I’ve found for the Psychic Warrior is the amount of time spent needing to buff up, I added in the augmentation for free swift action but it doesn’t take effect until mid-levels.

Duration feels more balanced to have it as a per encounter manifestation rather then going with an all day manifestation of 1 hour/level. That also helps balance the cost a bit at higher levels as it will likely be manifested with 7pp for the swift action.

10 points of damage seemed a fair return against 1pp but it’s really hard to determine how damage scales per level since I don’t have the chance to play test it one hundred different ways. At first this means that the manifester will need to do 20 damage in an encounter to see a benefit. At mid-levels, with the swift manifestation they’re looking at 80 damage in an encounter.

The usefulness of this stays the same regardless of what types of encounters occur. Facing multiple smaller opponents or one BBEG with tons of hit points gives similar returns since the damage is cumulative and not based per hit.

I'm up in the air about whether the pp gained should be permanent or temporary for while the power lasts.

Anyone have any suggestions or comments?

Thanks in advance.

Make it a level 5 power, that or switch to "For every ten points of damage recived" instead of inflicted (and still only by combat, not magic) and I'd allow it in my campign withow a seccond thought.
Also note that making it a 5th level could raise the duration, but that's completly ... 5.5th level =p so I'd add a focus, but since it's not a spell ._.;; then i dont know

Another suggestion would be making it a third level power with the "damage taken" modifier and making it last 1 round/level

I'd be a little concerned about psywars that went the two weapon fighting route.
At higher levels that's several attacks in a round (as a full attack action) with good strength and weapon enchantments, which could very easily replenish the psywar's full power point total.
I'd suggest rather making the gains a temporary power point increase and reduce the duration to 5 rounds + 1/level instead.

First, I disagree with making it a 5th level power, since you're thereby cutting off access until 13th level, and the power point reserve is a career-level issue, not an high-level-only issue.

Next, while I agree it should be available at 1st level, I'm not sure the 10 damage dealt is the right way to go.

What I would likely recommend is something like the Expanded Classes options from PHB2 / Mind's Eye. A 1st level option that does something to the effect of:

For every psionic feat you possess, you gain an additional x power points.

This could either by a substitution for the psywar feat gained at 1st level, or such. It represents a psychic warrior who has chosen to give up a small part of his martial ability to have improved manifesting capability.
