| Ulandorf_TheBlue04-14-07, 11:42 AM | I plan on making a psion:telepath for my next game and I've been having trouble deciding on powers to choose (especially 3rd lvl --so many good ones...). I think I just need some help focusing on what a true telepath should be able to do. Any insight on powers that have proven to be effective or ones that aren't worth it? |

A telepath should be able to influence people. Mindlink: Once you start using this power your party will wonder how they ever got along without it. Once linked party members can chat away with virtually no chance of eavesdroppers (you do have to act as the operator). So when one member is interrogated, asked to negotiate, or otherwise has to speak for the party, the rest can listen in and offer advice. When the party rogue is scouting ahead there is no reason not to maintain constant communication. One of the DM's for my group insisted that players use "finger quotes" for whatever they are saying to the others via Mindlink rather than speaking aloud just to keep track of what the NPCs and bad guys were actually hearing. Eventually, it was easier to just assume the party was saying nothing aloud unless the player stated otherwise. Read Thoughts: If the party as decided to include a telepath, think they want one who can't read minds? This power is so basic that it is almost a given. It only picks up surface thoughts, but there are ways around that. When you walk up to a guard, the password he is expecting to hear is probably in his surface thoughts. If not, simple conversation can bring things from memory to the surface ("Whatever you do, DON'T think about the command word that shuts off the traps or the guards' schedule). Of course, if you try to live by telepathy alone you will probably die. See the myriad of threads on power picks for the psion for good powers out of discipline. Most of any given psion's picks come off the general list. But these powers cover the basics that just about any telepath should have down. |
