| herms01-29-08, 12:29 PM | hello, my charecter is an ardent and i want him to move like in some anime show: he move so fast that he "teleport behind the target" catch him flatfooted and hit him, then "teleport" away from harms way. i know that the elocater have that ability 1/day... i would like to do it with power and feat instead. for exemple: dimentional slide as a move action, then use the adaptable flanker to flank the enemy and finaly hustle with dimentional slide as a move action. would that work?? and is there a simpler way?? thanks |
| InkBlot01-29-08, 12:53 PM | Yes, there is a simpler way. 1. Dimension hop behind your enemy as a swift action. 2. Attack as a standard action. 3. Dimension slide away as a move action. In Complete Warrior, there's a feat called Sun School which lets you make a free attack any time you instantaneously move next to a foe. It's a tactical feat, so it has a couple other benefits in addition. Sun School requires one Monk level to get, but lost levels aren't as big a problem for Ardents, and Ardent/Monk has good Wisdom synergy. So with Sun School you could d-hop in, attack twice, and d-slide out. Of course, you can also use d-slide to move in and d-hop to move out instead. edit: There's a feat in Tome Of Battle called Snap Kick. It lets you make a free unarmed strike in any round when you make any sort of melee attack, but all your attacks take a -2 penalty. It's prereqs are pretty light too. With Snap Kick you could port in, make three attacks, and port out. |
| CrimsonDeath01-29-08, 01:34 PM | There are a couple of prestiege classes in Forgotten Realms splat-books, the Teflammar Shadowlord and the Crinti Shadowmarauder, who gain an ability called "shadow pounce", which lets a character make a full attack after teleporting next to an enemy. There are a few multi-pouncer builds on the CharOp boards, and at least a couple use the Ardent. Do a search for "Nightcrawler", and it should turn up a few links. There's also the Chrono-Legionaire, a Nomad/Slayer build that uses Dimension Swap and Anticipate Teleport to mimic a Dimension Door Spring Attack. There ought to be a way to do that much of the build with the Ardent, although some of the stuff would be difficult or pointless to do as anything other than a Psion. I can come back with a link if that sounds interesting. |

| InkBlot01-30-08, 03:21 PM | Elan are a lot more rare than Illithid. Unless your DM is running a game centered on them you probably won't run into many Elan. Just like anybody playing a Ranger, you should ask your DM how rare the favored enemy you want will be. If your DM refuses to tell you, then go with the Illithid. |
