| Mindolin03-12-07, 04:09 PM | Okay, first off I have read this passage and know that Hidden Talent does not grant you a manifester level, but I was thinking of House Ruling it to where the characters could take it and Practiced Manifester and allow them to stack so that the user can augment the power they learned, provided they have the proper amount of power points. Any ideas on how balanced this would be? |
| awaken_D_M_golem03-12-07, 04:23 PM | It works just fine the way you're thinking it works , but it works a little different , and still works. { ... I had a hard time following that , too ... } Hidden Talent gives you a -fester level of One when you -fest the power. Only when you -fest the power. Practised -fester at 2nd level would let a 2pp version be go off-able. ......"............".....at 3rd level would let a 3pp ..........................at 4th level would let a 4pp here's where it gets tricky : where are you getting the extra power points from ? you don't actually have a -fester level to give you bonus pp , because ... you don't have that -fester level all day. Practiser -fester gives you the -fester level all day , but that's assigned to what ? I don't know. And when I guess , sometimes Tempest gets mad ... :( I'd say no bonus pp. And 5th level at level 5 , only when you -fest it. Don't forget getting 4 ranks of Psicraft from where ? Seriously , this is not as effective as 1 level of Ardent , just be selective. Total side bar tangent --> this is how the Hive gets Blingy --> but ignore this. Someone else have comments - or nerf my ideas ?! |
| Mindolin03-12-07, 04:35 PM | Sorry, I knew that it didn't give bonus power points. Main thing I was going for is this: I am planning on starting a fairly balanced game based on various anime, and was using this as a way for the characters to have various powers. Usually, they are most likely going to either be gaining cognizance crystals for more power points, or just take levels in the manifester classes. Glad it does seem to be fairly balanced. |
| awaken_D_M_golem03-12-07, 06:18 PM | Great Idea. HT + P-fest + CogCrystals. huh , wow. I'd say a little pricey , but 1st level powers won't be used so much as levels go by. The gear vs class abilities ratio is skewed toward classes. But this is a different / new way to go about Psionics. |
| Mindolin03-12-07, 07:04 PM | Well, it is based on Anime, and something I have noticed is that most Anime characters have one primary technique that they use from the beginning, such as Urameshi Yusuke's Spirit Gun, or Son Goku's Kamehameha, each of which can be acheived with a Crystal Shard power that has the minor switch of doing bludgeoning damage instead of piercing damage. Now with the crystal capacitors and Practiced Manifester, you can pretty much have them doing their techniques at max power. In fact, at least with Yusuke, having practiced manifester helps out with this because at the beginning of the series, he could only use the Spirit Gun once per day, which fits in with him using a max augmented version of Crystal Shard each time. Give him Hidden Talent (Crystal Shard), and about five levels, and the Practiced Manifester feat, and you've got him as he appears at about the Genkai Disciple Tryouts. |
| InkBlot03-12-07, 07:25 PM | Energy ray also works. I always figured Yusuke was a monk 1/wilder x with Stygian Discernment (ability to sense ghosts), Crystal Shard (spirit gun), Swarm Of Crystals (spirit shotgun). I forget what other abilities he had, but with the Educated Wilder variant (Yusuke did recieve heavy training after all) he should have enough powers known to pick up all of them. And with the new multiclassing feats from Secrets Of Sarlona, his melee abilities would be up to snuff too. Come to think of it, neither Yusuke nor Goku are good examples. Neither of them started their respective series with the ability to use ki-based powers. Ichigo from Bleach would be a better example. He manifested his stereotypical giant sword in the first episode. Although Ichigo is even easier to stat out, with Soulknife (Hidden Talent (Stygian Discernment)) or Psychic Warrior (using Call Weaponry or the Soulbound Weapon variant). In a way, Hidden Talent can already be used with Practiced Manifester. Hidden Talent's virtual manifester level is equal to the highest manifester level you have, so all you need to do is take one level of psion or psywar and use your bonus feat on Practiced Manifester. Voila, your Hidden Talent virtual manifester level is now equal to your hit dice, up to 5. You've also snagged some extra power points and at least doubled your repertoire of powers. |
| Mindolin03-12-07, 11:14 PM | True, they may not be the based characters to use for this exercise. I was planning on having Yusuke go Chaos Monk for the first few levels, as it fit with brawling, and then probably begin to change those levels into true Monk levels, before going into Fist of Zuoken. I can't really say much about Ichigo, I'm not a fan of Bleach, though that is mainly because I haven't seen much. The way I was planning on having it was Yusuke had it from the beginning, but was not quite able to use it yet. As for Goku, I was going to have it as my version of the Saiyans, it was going to be sort of the same, he had the talent, but didn't know how to use it. Either that or just say he took it as his first feat after making it out of the Racial Class for Saiyans. |
