| Lycanthromancer09-10-07, 11:42 AM | Okay, I have a question about certain powers, such as energy bolt. That particular power has an area identical to its range. Both are a 120 ft line. So, in order to make it twice as long, do you have to use two metapsionic feats? If you extend the range, the area doesn't expand, making that option alone useless. If you extend the area but not the range, the portion outside the range simply doesn't work. I really think there needs to be more thought put into this... |
| Bacris09-10-07, 03:06 PM | I'd rule Widen Power would work on it, but not Enlarge Power... that seems to be the intention, but the way the powers are set up, it's a little bit ambiguous. Although Enlarge Power wouldn't work anyway, because of the rules for Enlarge Power. |

When a power's given range is clearly the "range" of the area's extent, then Widen Power affects the power's range (otherwise many/most area powers couldn't be widened). When the power's range is the distance at which the area can originate, then you can use Enlarge Power to affect the range (if close, medium, or long). There seems to be some developer confusion about range and area. Some area powers have a numerical range and then just say "Area: cone-shaped emanation...", some have numbers for both range and area. I think area powers should only have a range entry when the area's origin can be a distance from you, and the definition of range should be expanded to cover this (the area's effect can exceed the range as long as the area's origin is within range).
