| danzibr201-13-08, 07:49 PM | My player has two natural attacks that are claws. First, if his claws naturally deal 1d6 damage, do Claws of the Beast overlap with that? What if he has on a +1 Frost claw cover that does 2d4 damage? Do the physical damages and magical damages overlap so he gets the high damage from Claws of the Beast, then the additional +1 Frost? Next, can he Dissolving Touch his claw and Dissolving Weapon his claw cover? If he is a Pyro, can he Hand Afire and Weapon Afire the same hand like above? And how many of these affect both claws? And can he apply all five of these to one claw? Also, if he gets iterative attacks from his class levels, let's say +7/+2, would he get, in a full round attack, two attacks with his primary hand at +7/+2 and his other claw attack at +7? Thanks in advance! Dan |

What if he has on a +1 Frost claw cover that does 2d4 damage? Do the physical damages and magical damages overlap so he gets the high damage from Claws of the Beast, then the additional +1 Frost? From the SRD, sepcifically Claws of the Beast: "You can call or dismiss the claws as a swift action during the duration of the power. If you attack with a manufactured weapon or another natural attack, you can’t make any claw attacks in that round. You can still hold and manipulate items with your claws or cast spells just as well as you could with your hands." Your player cannot attack with Claws of the Beast if he uses natural attacks, and they do not overlap in any way. He will not get effects that apply to his "normal", natural attacks unless those effects target his whole person, such as Greater Magic Fang. Next, can he Dissolving Touch his claw and Dissolving Weapon his claw cover? Edit: reword Dissolving Touch is a touch attack spell, a la shocking grasp. Dissolving Weapon specifically requires a held weapon - they can both be active together, but won't work together on an attack. If he is a Pyro, can he Hand Afire and Weapon Afire the same hand like above? I don't see why not, but only one of them will ever apply on an attack, unless you start using off-hand attack rules. And how many of these affect both claws? And can he apply all five of these to one claw? Anything that targets him as a person will affect his natural attacks, but the actual attacks are seperate, and Claws of the Beast specifically cannot be used with other natural attacks. Also, if he gets iterative attacks from his class levels, let's say +7/+2, would he get, in a full round attack, two attacks with his primary hand at +7/+2 and his other claw attack at +7? No, iterative attacks never apply to natural weapons. Using Claws of the Beast, he would get two attacks at his full BAB when using a Full Attack action, or one attack at full BAB when not. Using his natural weaons, he would attack with his primary weapons at full BAB and secondary weapons at -5 (-2 with multiattack) when using a Full Attack action, and would gain a single attack at full BAB (primary) or -5 / -2 (secondary / secondary with multiattack) when not. He would not get attacks from Claws of the Beast in this case. |
