How much does a power stone weigh? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-18-07, 04:22 PM Quick question. How much does a power stone weigh? How much does a Cognizance crystal weigh?

I am merely asking because my 13 level erudite is carrying 1 power stone for every power in his repertoire. This comes out to 134 power stones, and 12 cognizance crystals.
They have to weigh something.

What are your thoughts? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'd rule power stones weigh the same as a coin.

The standard coin weighs about a third of an ounce (fifty to the pound).

Handy Haversack: A backpack of this sort appears to be well made, well used, and quite ordinary. It is constructed of finely tanned leather, and the straps have brass hardware and buckles. It has two side pouches, each of which appears large enough to hold about a quart of material. In fact, each is like a bag of holding and can actually hold material of as much as 2 cubic feet in volume or 20 pounds in weight. The large central portion of the pack can contain up to 8 cubic feet or 80 pounds of material. Even when so filled, the backpack always weighs only 5 pounds.

While such storage is useful enough, the pack has an even greater power in addition. When the wearer reaches into it for a specific item, that item is always on top. Thus, no digging around and fumbling is ever necessary to find what a haversack contains. Retrieving any specific item from a haversack is a move action, but it does not provoke the attacks of opportunity that retrieving a stored item usually does.

Moderate conjuration; CL 9th; Craft Wondrous Item, secret chest; Price 2,000 gp;Weight 5 lb.

03-18-07, 05:19 PM He might also consider putting multiple powers on the same power stone. A power stone can hold up to at least six powers. (it costs the same, but it's quicker to imprint, since you can imprint a single 150 gp power stone with 6 level 1 powers on it in a day, rather than taking six days to imprint six individual 25 gp power stones each with one level 1 power on it.)

Thank you for the weight answers. A cognizance crystal weighs 1 pound, and with the power stones weighing the same as a gold piece, with the gold peice being 50 to a pound- then 50 power stones weigh a pound.

Jules Carv, Thats a good idea, puting six powers on a stone, I had not thought of that

A 1/50-pound sphere of quartz (2.65 g/cm^3) would have a diameter of 0.510 inches. My thumbs are small, but not that small.

I'd say a weight of 1 to 2 ounces is more reasonable.

honestly, as a powerstone is roughly equivilent to a scroll I would rule that the weight is negligable. (also like a scroll)

I agree with Rageheart, but with different reasoning.

Take a look at Ioun Stones and Pearls of Power. They have no weight listed, and I invision a power stone being the same size, so that means no weight.

I was looking at it from an individual stone's perspective. If given enough stones, the weight would add up.

If I had to venture a guess, based on size, I would say that a power stone weighed the same as a .44 caliber bullet (without casing):

.44 caliber = 200 grains = 12960 milligrams = 12.96 grams = 0.0285719092 pounds = 35 power stones to a pound.

To be precise, my erudite character is carrying on his person 134 power stones all self crafted, and 12 cognizance crystals of which some are self crafted.

I just thougth that the weight of 134 power stones, whatever it is, would no longer be negligible thats all.

I am a little embarrassed for asking how many ounces are in a pound, but I am asking.:embarrass
