In my opinion

-Make disciplines only powers available to all classes, having a discipline optional, and make powers that are within a manifesters discipline (if they have one) cost 1 less power point to manifest but non discipline powers cost 1 more power point to manifest(similar to specializing in a field of spellcasting)
-Add all the missing powers from the 3.0 XPH to 3.5 XPH
-Powers for illusions, invisibility, counterspelling, MDJ like effects (everything magic has that psionics doesn't)
-Automatically scaling save DC's for all powers
-Reinstate the 0 level powers
-Psions can learn powers from a power stone as a wizard can scribe from a scroll*
-Bonus power points = Manifester level*Int modifier
-Psionic Focus take out entirely for metapsionics. For psionic feats a minimum amount of power points is required.
-Make powers that can rape magic as badly as magic can rape psionics (Glossolalia, psychic turmoil, etc...)
-Make powers that can give benefits to other spellcasters
-Make feats that can hamper spellcasters
-Allow psicrystals to be customized with astral construct abilities as though they were astral constructs (druid power!)

*this process instead requires 20 xp*level of the power (True creation prices XP to gp at 5 GP per 1 XP).

The nova effect combined with all these changes should put psions roughly on par with druids and clerics (I hope).

Thats how I would do it, how about you?

NOTE: Remember that spellcasters have access to cheese as advanced as psionic cheese if not greater so don't fear stuff like infinite power points as spellcasters can just as easily have infinite spells (most likely). ALSO NOTE THAT THIS THREAD IS FOR FUN (and to make you think).

Why not just "make psionics broken and magic" and be done with it?

Erudite? Wilder?

-Add all the missing powers from the 3.0 XPH to 3.5 XPH
Don't look at the original PsH! Definately not directly!
-Powers for illusions, invisibility, counterspelling, MDJ like effects (everything magic has that psionics doesn't)
Don't we already have invisibility? And illusions are totally understandable from a psionic point of view, they'd just have to be Mind-Affecting.
-Automatically scaling save DC's for all powers
This doesn't happen with magic!
-Reinstate the 0 level powers
Yes.
-Psions can learn powers from a power stone as a wizard can scribe from a scroll*
Erudite. Or Psychic Cheiurgy. Cheurgy. Chuirgy.
-Bonus power points = Manifester level*Int modifier
Twice as many power points?
-Psionic Focus take out entirely for metapsionics. For psionic feats a minimum amount of power points is required.
Hmm.
-Make powers that can rape magic as badly as magic can rape psionics (Glossolalia, psychic turmoil, etc...)
Yes.
-Make powers that can give benefits to other spellcasters
>> Why?
-Make feats that can hamper spellcasters
There aren't any feats that can hamper psionics, but plenty for spellcasters.
-Allow psicrystals to be customized with astral construct abilities as though they were astral constructs (druid power!)
They still have 1/2 your HP. SPLAT!

Really, I'd just remove spellcasting altogether. Psionics rock so much, it can be used on it's own.

Why do you want to make a psion the equal of a cleric or druid? We had it all balanced fine, and then you pull out your PHB and say "It's not as good as Munchkin McBroken, my Druid buddy". Don't try to make the psion as good as the cleric. Try to make the cleric as good as the psion. I'd start by removing all their spells with a range of "personal" and no area. Then, I don't really know. Druids? Replace Wild Shape with the Shapchange variant from PHBII and ban Natural Spell. Then take another look at play balance. Psions are not the problem. CoDzilla is the problem.

By the way, I'm not really that scary. I apologise if this is overly agressive. It's mostly irony.

I have no clue what an erudite is... (hopefully this will give psionics some well needed cheese though so earth power+specialty in telepathy will make bestow power cheese more feasible)

scaling DCs for augmentable powers (sorry I didn't specify(I know some already do, but a lot don't))

A very poor version of invisibility IMO and chrirurgery is a poor way to get powers (this gives them to you without a spellbook and at without having to prepare them, but still at a cost so that you won't be tempted to go and learn every power in existence)

twice as many power points to make up for other stuff and give more nova capability since powers are more difficult to scribe etc...

They get free metapsionics without the stuff and it used to be that way in the unholy XPH 3.0 (which I have (Don't worry I keep a SMG under my pillow just in case))

Dweomer of Transference

Psionic Hole feat, Chaotic Mind Feat, etc...

Its ok, you have double their casting capability (roughly)
EDIT: and at least it helps against clerics I guess

Reaction to callix... :gah: :hides: [/sarcasm]

As for balancing magic: hah, good luck. You'd need the combined efforts of the greatest theoretical optimization minds out there. I mean like: ghola, khan, stormwind, noldor, disposable hero, lord of procrastination, caelic, taoist, bacris, and lokiyn to name a few just to make some progress.

NOTE: If I wanted to make psions better than druids in power level I'd go with druid spell list highlights added and modded as well as free scribing, d8 HD, astral construct abilities at 1 per level for psicrystal A menu lvls 1-6, B menu lvls 7-12, C menu 13+ as well as full hd progression for psicrystal with an exception that it can take feats, summoned astral constructs that improve past 9th level ones. Metapsionics and psionic feats without focus and -2 pp to each cost. Metapsionic versions of metamagic feats that are missing. Stuff like that. Oh, and removal of the PP cap on spending for a power (If you thought novas were bad before...). Eat my maximized swarm of crystals for 200 (54 pp(feasible at 8th level)) points of damage and your little doggie too...

Just... just stop it. Don't try and alter psionics so it's just as broken as magic. I like psionics since it isn't game breaking, but still immensely powerful.

Psionics + ToB. That's the balance stick. Any attempt at making them as powerful as magic will cause me to beat you with the 3.0 Psionics Handbook. Open to the Psionic Combat page. Psionics has lots of cheese, yes, but it's useful cheese. Things like save points, and turning yourself into a psychic sandwich. Magic has flavourless metagaming cheese. :P

Not to nitpick, but you don't need to ban natural spell with the Shapeshift variant since it specifically says you cannot use Natural Spell with it. And I agree wholeheartedly with balancing the Cleric & Druid down to a more acceptable level. Check out the classes forum, there are a couple of threads about just that.
