Ok, so the DM's GF is playing a Wilder, and neither her nor the DM have really read through the XPH, nor fully "Get" the system yet.

The Dm felt that the Wilder was Underpowered because it got as many PP's as the Psion, but only 11 powers.

So he changed it so the Wilder got as many powers known as a Psychic Warrior, I.E., 1 per level.

I told him this was a TERRIBLE idea, because though the Wilder gets fewer powers known, many powers do different things the more you augment it (Dominate comes to mind), which means that when a Wilder uses Wild Surge, they are getting these expanded powers levels before a psion.

As well, Wild Surge, by my interpretation can be used to apply a metapsionic feat, without diminishing the amount of damage done (compared to a psion).

Finally, I told himt he Wilder was balanced with the 3/4th BaB, so rays and whatnot will never miss.

Can you guys offer anything else? I love the XPH, and I don't want to see stuff get broken because the DM doesn't understand stuff...

Thanks guys!

Thanks guys!Wilders are weak, but not underpowered-weak. They select from a great list and they have Wild Surge -- which, admittedly, carries a bigger and bigger drawback as you go on in levels, but nevertheless allows things that you normally can't do.

If your DM is wanting to add more powers to the wilder, use the suggestion from February's Mind's Eye (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20070214a), which was almost universally lauded as a good change.

You're correct. Wilders are meant to only manifest a few powers, but manifest them extremely well, among other things. They're analogous to a psionic sorcerer, but with the option of better power instead of better pacing.
