What if it gained the Illithid Heritage feat?

Could it eventually gain Illithid Skin, then Illithid Grapple and leading to Illithid
Extraction?

That would be scary

03-03-08, 10:21 PM Psicrystals don't really have ancestors or descendants so they shouldn't be able to have heritage of any sort. Anything you put in your pet rock should be a reflection of your psyche, so an illithid character could reasonably have a pet rock imbued with his hunger for gray matter. Then again, this abuse of the Ill Heritage feats isn't any more preposterous as the feats themselves. As it stands, you can toggle on and off who your ancestor was with Psychic Reformation and can steal someone's illithid ancestry with Feat Leech. So as long as your crystal meets the prereqs and your DM is using some of the worst feats ever to see the page, then no reason not to.

Your psicrystal does need to have the psionic subtype first (they don't normally -- read the creature entry) since all IH feats are also Psionic feats.

03-05-08, 05:31 PM Even a warforged psion, who can't possibly have illithid as either ancestors or descendants (because he has neither in any case) can use Feat Leech to cause an illithid to retroactively become his ancestor temporarily or use Reformation to make himself the descendant of a mind flayer in just 10 minutes. For that matter, he can just take the feat since it lacks prereqs or restrictions that would bar him. Pure cheese, but again, the feats are just that bad so no point in wondering if the applications make sense.

You DO gain a bonus feat to get it with at 1st level, however, which makes up for it (mostly).

Erudites (a subclass of psion) get Psicrystal Affinity as a bonus feat, in addition to a normal psionic bonus feat.

ok, this raise a question:
as anybody trying to manifest a level X power needs MKA {10+X},
and as Psicrystal begin with INT8 (assuming the master is a Psion and they share the MKA),
the power given by Hidden talent is of no use to them until they reach INT11 (when their master is ML9+, or sooner with Improve Psicrystal).
Am I right?

MKA = Manifesting Key Ablility (I suppose you know it, for I took it from your (awesome) revised power document, but for anyone else...)

If I may ask another question:
As I use your revised powers in the game I DM, would it be fair/balanced that Hidden talent gives 5 quanta instead of the 1st level power?
(needless to say, if you say yes, my Psion player will be most pleased for his Psicrystal, and this will give interesting options to other players as well (horray for the Psionic focus-based manifesting! ^^))

On the other hand, you're giving the psicrystal two feats for the price of one (Wild Talent + Precocious Psychic), so think carefully about that. If you want to do this, you might want to lower the quanta involved (say, 3 instead of 5).
