| Karui_Kage05-28-07, 04:42 AM | I have a player in a new campaign I'm running that presented a build to me during character creation. This is all at level 1, but he is like me, he likes to plan his build out ahead of time. Unfortunately, the last level seems to be a bit of a cherry picker. His plan is: Elan - Male Scout for 4 levels Psion for 1 level Elocator for 7-10 levels (this I can see, a very movement based psion, seems like a nicely meshed scout/psion prestige) Then, he wanted to finish off with Ilithid Slayer for a few levels, maybe another level of regular psion. Mostly, he asked if he'd be able to fight an Illithid, and then talked about how he'd get heavy armor, weapon profs, etc., and could finally use powers in heavy armor. Ignoring the penalties he'd suffer to his scout skills because of that, let it be known I'm completely fine with the mechanics of this. I'm not crying overpowered, or anything like that. My issue is worrying about how that makes sense later on. I've only read cursory glances over th IS, but comparing it to his overall build otherwise, it seems like it'd be the lowest of his skill classes (ignoring the one level dip in psion, the other two classes had a lot of skill points and class skills), this one having few class skills, and ok points. It'd be warrior-like, full BAB, heavy armor, etc. Overall, it just doesn't seem like his whole 'skill-guy, movement-based, etc.' character. Depending on what happens later on in levels, the role-play for this might explain itself, and be alright. Right now though, I was wondering what everyone thought about this. I'm not going to disallow anything, but can anyone else see this build as being a believable progression? Right now it just seems like such a huge jump to me, for merely a few abilities the prestige offers. Of course, I could be wrong, and this may end up working out. Thoughts? Thanks! |

However, you might make a suggestion about lowering the BAB on the illithid slayer to Medium, and bumping the skill points up to 6+Int/level, adding a number of class skills as well (though if he has a high Intelligence, he'll have lots of skill points anyway). |

Mostly, he asked if he'd be able to fight an Illithid, and then talked about how he'd get heavy armor, weapon profs, etc., and could finally use powers in heavy armor. . . Consider that the Standard Reference Document has a variant excluding Illithid since Illithid is not Open Game Content. Requirements To qualify to become a slayer, a character must fulfill all the following criteria. Base Attack Bonus: +4. Skill: Knowledge (dungeoneering) 4 ranks. Feat: Track. Psionics: Must have a power point reserve of at least 1 power point. It makes the prc a little stronger, but not significantly so. So your friend has a skill monkey that trained a little for some more martial prowress... It's not a big deal then. :) |
