05-21-07, 03:52 PM Is the XPH version of the Illithid too strong for his CR? I think taht a sorcerer illithid ( those in the monster manual entry) are not as challenging as an equal Cr XPH illithid with 10 levels of Psion.

Any thoughts?

... maybe WEAKER, due to arcane magic's large amounts of cheese and potential abuse.

(Remember, psionic NPC won't typically go nova against the party. Realistically, they would try to use about 50-60% of their PP reserve.)

05-21-07, 07:47 PM I'm not sure it's overpowered, but it realistically doesn't strike me as being blatantly under-powered, either. I mean, it's an illithid, so that as a general rule has the potential to cause problems, but on the flip side, it's a telepath, and need to crap golden bricks to be truly effective at later levels. So things even out.

05-21-07, 08:29 PM Considering a 9th level psion NPC would be CR 9, and that's before the ability score adjustments, the bigger HD, the special abilities, and other perks of being a mind flayer. I'd say it should be at least CR 9 to remain consistent, though an XPH Mind Flayer can be played basically the same as a standard mind flayer.

Holy Crap!!! Fafnir is that you? Remember when you killed your father to keep his gold and turned into a dragon? And then Sigurd slew you?

05-22-07, 04:25 PM Crud. All I know is that he disappeared off the boards, along with most of the vets, and when I last checked, the board was overrun with n00bs. Yes, the bad kind. So sad. That board used to be n00b hell. You would be attacked for doing anything fafnir or the others didn't like in the game. Which was basically anything fafnir didn't like. He was pretty much the ring leader.
