| gatharak03-05-07, 03:30 AM | Been looking for a while, but can't find anything: Has anyone attempted to devise a system for using illumian power sigils with psionics? |
| Linkrulesx1003-06-07, 02:18 AM | I would just replace magic with psionics, where it asks for a spell slot give up an equivelent amount of power points. Hope that helps :) |

Then the bonus goes up to 2. +1 and +2 manifester level are big increases that should have big drawbacks (ennervation, damage, or loss of flexibility, so far). Increases in caster level are less impacting because magic has built in caps, and caster level increases can be obtained nigh-readily. The psionic illumian sigil would probably involve the psionic focus, such as "expend focus to gain X". The benefit could even mimic the mantra feat style where it also grants a small benefit while focus is held. |

Going by your logic here, do you use Pracitced Manifester? Just wondering ... Linkrulesx10's suggestion seems to be the simplest solution, but I'm interested in your ideas on how it effects game balance. |
| Kiklio03-07-07, 12:33 PM | I did not know that the bonus was limited by level. I don't own Races of Destiny, but have read it thoroughly once. The limitation makes sense, given the illumians' keenness on multiclassing. In this case, it's appropriate to swap magic references for psionic references. I'm glad my major misconception didn't cause confusion on anyone's part! |
| gatharak03-07-07, 09:46 PM | I've been doing a bit more thinking about it and there are a few small issues with simply substituting spell slots for the equivalent number of power points. The main problem is that the illumian words are geared toward the base classes. Thus, usually naen (intelligence) words make use of prepared spell slots, vaul (charisma) words use spontaneous spell slots and hoon (wisdom and constitution) use prepared slots or turn undead attempts. How do you think the difference between prepared and spontaneous spell slots relates to psionics? My natural response would be to treat power points as spontaneous spell slots, since that's more or less the way they are used. However, because this means taking the vaul power sigil, it benefits illumian wilders much more than any other psionic class who all rely on intelligence or wisdom as their primary manifesting ability. I guess the easy way out is to take one of the illumian words that change the ability that grants you bonus spells (or for our case, power points), since there's nothing that needs significant change there! What do you think the odds of a Mind's Eye article on illumians and psionics would be? ;) |

(There isn't any good combos for a truenaming illumian, however since I am a special illumian I had a unique power sigil that no one else had, in effect I had a + 2 int checks, 2 skills were treated as class skills for point spending and 2/day I can add my cha mod to an int based skill check) |
