| CrimsonDeath06-11-07, 08:18 PM | I was thinking about Brain Moles from a completely different perspective when I remembered the Improved Familiar feat. Then I started wondering whether the Brain Mole would be unbalanced as an Improved Familiar for an arcanist who's built around hunting psionic characters. |
| InkBlot06-12-07, 01:47 AM | Since it has a 4th level power which it can manifest at will as a 5th level manifester, it should be fine so long as you make sure a wizard can't get it until well after the wizard gets 4th level spells. Maybe at 13th level it would be OK. |
| crizhII06-12-07, 04:02 AM | How about a Larval Flayer instead. It's very similar to a Stirge, maybe put it in at level 7. That's where you could get an Imp or a Quasit and they've got some pretty good SLA's. |

| SlanderPanic06-12-07, 11:11 AM | A brain mole isn't much more powerful than the basic familiars. Its power leech ability is limited by the fact that it can only use it to heal and to feed (and by its low DC.) Its at-will detect psionics is pretty useful. I'd probably allow a character to get one at about 3rd level. That seems fair to me. |

That's what I was thinking, since the Brain Mole's powers have such low save DCs, and since its CR was the same as the Stirge, one of the other level 3 options. |

| Lycanthromancer06-12-07, 06:50 PM | I think I'd rather have a mind-leech thingy as a familiar... AKA, a puppeteer. |
| SlanderPanic06-12-07, 07:23 PM | In psionic Russia, brain leech makes familiar out of you. |
