Incarnate/Psion/Soul Manifester [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-05-08, 09:41 AM I'm thinking about putting together a Psion/Incarnate (NE)/Soul Manifester character for an upcoming game, and I'm just wondering - what sort of Psion would be a good choice? The character's gestalted with rogue and warlock on the other half, and is going to be a focuses liar as it stands, as well as skilled in UMD, but he masquerades as a scholar and historian. Telepath seems like an obvious option, though I'm considering something else.

Anyone have any experience with the Soul Manifester or combining psionics and incarnum? Got any suggestions for appropriate disciplines to choose?

04-05-08, 11:01 AM One character I had planned (but never got to play) was a character whose necromancer mother experimented on him in order to turn him into a horrific monster. His father saved him before he could be fully corrupted, but he still spontaneously raises the undead, without even trying.

...And there's nothing he can do to stop it.

He was an egoist//incarnate (NG) with Necrocarnum Acolyte, that eventually progressed into thrallherd, with the thralls and believers being undead. Psychometabolism powers and various soulmelds were used to represent his monstrous nature by altering his body into horrific forms. I used the necrocarnum zombies at lower levels (representing the soul of his dead father, who was permanently cursed to follow his son, only able to affect the world by inhabiting the bodies of those he had slain, but since they loved each other, he wasn't quite as upset as one normally would be).

Note that you can't use soul manifester in a gestalt game, since it's a dual-nature class (house rules aside).

04-05-08, 12:19 PM Yeah, I typically approach dual-progression classes as being okay as long as both classes were on one half of the gestalt (I'm the DM, working on NPC/Villain). Not sure how kosher it is, but I haven't seen it in action yet.

I was partially considering Egoist... The Mind's Eye thing that gives them minor change shape would be kinda handy if he ever migrated into being super manipulative... but with only three psion levels before getting into Soul Manifester, I'd kinda like to pull off Speed of Thought or something, too... (20' speed sucks a lot!)

Oh, and you can't take Necrocarnum Acolyte on a good character. Just in case you ever do get the chance to make that character (who does indeed sound kinda cool).

04-05-08, 12:50 PM He had the [evil] descriptor as part of his background (the necromancer mother, and all). It was DM'd in, but it's good for all that.

Oh, and he was a changeling, by race. He could take some pretty nasty forms, too. :)
