Has anyone tried to play a game with both psionics and incarnum? Do the two rules work well together?

Personally I don't think that Incarnum has anything more to give to psionics than it does to arcane magic.

I've been wanting to play something from here for a while:

...but haven't gotten around to it.

Incarnum is actually a pretty major waste of time. Would be nice if the effects of soulmelds stacked, but damn near every bonus is insight, meaning you can't meld stack and you top out at extremely mediocre damage regardless of what tree of incarnum you explore. And of all the potential villain/necromancer types I've ever come across, the necrocarnum PrC is the most limp wristed thing I've EVER seen.
Incarnum can be feat bashed to make a mediocre dip for a couple of levels- human with 4 levels incarnate with 3 bonus essentia and psicarnum weapon/psionic weapon/greater psionic weapon/psicrystal affinity/psicrystal containment/lightning gauntlets can make for an acceptable expenditure of psionic focus for a soulknife or psychic warrior. On one hand, if you use soulknife, on level 20 this build can blow off both foci in one attack for an attack that deals mindblade damage plus 4d8 psychic strike + 4d6 Gr psionic Weapon + 4d6 psicarnum weapon + 6d6 lightning gauntlets. Nice first strike in a round, then run away and hide to regain focus while the party fights on. Not even much use in this case unless you have an aristocrat you need to assassinate. Psychic warrior does better with acidic weapon power than psychic strike does, imho, with a wider array of abilities to fall back on and more bonus feats.
Still, I feel that Incarnum is like clam sauce- no good for a full course and not even great as a dip.

I personally use Psionics and Incarnum "together" in my gaming world and alot of characters benefit from a Shape Soulmeld feat. A totemist/psychic warrior comes a long way towards sustainable damage and action on the battlefield.

So, would you say that the two are balanced together?

Why would you want to be balanced?

I did come up with one little homebrew power useing Incarnum and Psionics, but its rough and unplaytested. But still here you go.

Create Soul Shard
Metacreativity (Creation)
Level: Shaper 7
Display: Ma, Me, V
Manifesting Time: 1 minute
Range: 0ft
Effect: One Soul Shard
Duration: Perm
Saveing throw: -
Power Resistance: -
Power Points: 13, XP

[I]Vahl'trala Harous drew from within her self, an azure mist came forth from her chest. With intence focas Vahl'trala forced the glowing vapor to crystalise between her hands

Useing Create Soul Shard brings into existance a sould shard, essentualy an unformed new soul. Creating a Soul Shard draws from the manafesters own Soul thuse costing XP, this cost can not be reduced persentage wise though psionics/magic or feets, but can be subsituted via ambrosia or the like.

Soul Shards can be used for vairous things, paying off feinds, subsatueing XP cost for spells or iteam creation, paying off gp cost for iteam creation at GM discreation, creating liveing consturcts, or for vaious other things that the GM might alow or come up with. A Soul Shard can't be partualy used, any exp not used is waisted, and if the exp cost exceeds XP of the soul shards used, the user must pay the remainder normaly.

Some times a creature is killed in such a way as to damage the soul, such as being eaten buy a barghest. If a Soul Shard is used as a componet in a resurection of such a person the chance of success increases buy 25% per Sould Shard used.

For Incarnum classes, Soul Shards are extreamly valuable, each hard can be used to add an essenta to a soul meld, doing so uses up the Soul Shard however.

XP Cost: The mininmum cost for manifesting Create Soul Shard is 1,000 XP
Augment: For every additional 2 PP you may create an additional soul shard, every additional Soul Shard cost and additional 1,000 XP

Yup - nothing which imbalances the other part in either of the systems. For me it just added a new level of cool. :-)

Interesting concept, but needs refinement- and spell checking. How does the soul shard reduce gp costs in creating magic items? What sort of trade value would a soul shard have to a devil? Would a soul shard created by a crude and less intelligent race like half orcs imbue a living construct with different mental scores than one created by a more intelligent race?

Basicly the idea is you use it in am maner simlar to ambrosia (BoED), they are simply consumed when makeing a magic iteam, replaceing xp that you might have spent in the iteams craft. This is dosen't realy help say the person who created the shard to make an iteam, though it coud possibly also be used to altenitively cover GP value insead of xp value as a set peice, it does have value to others. Think of the GP value of said iteam in a maner simlar to a magic iteam (wich it is in a sence) (1000x5)2, so its market worth is 10,000 GP and likely more in meny markets.

Again sence its a soul, it would be usefull in makeing intellegent or liveing iteams, intellegent swords, selfaware constructs, ect.. This gives them a use for RP reasons as well, wana make a warforged? you might nead a sould shard as a part of the creation prosses.

To a Devil, well it would probably only be worth the soul of a 1HD creature, but keep in mind that Devils are greedy buy nature and will still covet it more than it would say 10,000 GP. A soul shard may be small, but it would be excedingly easy to keep and would help power it though eternity. Still depending on how your soul contract with the fiend is worded you may be able to get out of a faustian pact with one.
