| Ryoku_06-02-07, 01:02 PM | Hello everybody! I love psions. They're probably my favorite class in D&D. My group will be starting a new D&D game in a few months and I've been given permission to play a psion. Since I haven't been able to play a psion in a game that has lasted, I am REALLY looking forward to this. As such, I've been pouring over the expanded psionics handbook. I've decided I would like the character to create an inteligent crystal golem when he reaches level 17 (including a side pool of xp I'll be setting aside for this very task, so around party level 18 I think). The reason I'm telling you all this is because I'd like some opinions on the build I have come up with for this creation. There are three things that I should mention before I post my spew of numbers. First, I want him to use Genesis before the construct and create the creation on his own plane. Also, I doubt I'd take the powers needed for the creation of the golem during play so a Psionic Reformation going all the way to level 1 cast at level 17 is included. Third, a True Creation power will be used to create the body out of Deep Crystal. So can people let me know if my math is right, if my abilities are fairly priced, and just generally letting me know if I screwed up or something is over powered. 8000gp (cost of the body, used to determine xp cost for True Creation) 15000gp int base (cost of the level of intelligence I wish to imbue it with) 1000gp crystal (cost of the deep crystal used for the body and the only price listed for the substance) 79000gp creation cost (listed gp creation cost of Psion-killer) 5680xp cost (listed xp cost for creation of a psion-killer) 7500gp int (gp cost of making an intelligent item at the level I want) 600xp int (xp cost of making an intelligent item at the level I want) int cost addition: (four lesser powers from the intelligence of the item) detect psionics at will- 3600gp (psionic version of detect magic) 10 ranks diplomacy- 5000gp (listed price) 10 ranks sense motive- 5000gp (listed price) Psionic repair dmg 3d8+6 on self 3/day- 6500gp (created ability based on cure moderate wounds ability listed. Mine is stronger than the spell because it is only usable on the item) Special purpose survival: (the following three abilities are three special purpose item dedicated powers I created for the special purpose of survival (trying to instill a sense of self-preservation and hoping it won't be a coward)) psionic repair dmg 10d8+17 on self- 60000gp (A stronger self heal. It uses the same number of dice as the fireball and lighting bolt listed so that is where I pulled the cost from) plane shift- 80000gp (so the golem can come and go from the characters created plane. This was a bit of a shot in the dark for price) Astral Seed on self- 80000gp (So the golem can have some ability to survive death. I've probably really low balled this but I don't want to sacrifice 8 levels to make this :) ) (the following may be a bit hard to follow as I was using it just for notes while I thought everything out) total int cost addition: 290100gp xp cost: 11604xp (the following was done before I realized there was a cost for powers it would get) 1600 xp to create the body 200 xp deep crystal 5680 xp golem cost 600 xp int cost Total XP needed: 8080xp 79000 gp golem cost 7500 gp int cost Total GP needed: 86500gp Total Time needed: 86-87 days Genesis: 1000xp Psychic Reformation at 17: 850xp New Total XP: 9930 New Total time: 99-100 days (the following is the end all be all. It includes the Genesis and Reformation as well as the gp and xp cost for the dedicated powers/lesser powers) Final XP cost: 19534xp Final GP cost: 326600gp Final Time cost: 339-340 days So that's my idea. I'd like to make it balanced but chances are the DM would be satisfied with the "New Total XP" and the "Total GP needed" lines. |

I like to simply take the Leadership feat for very high level psions, and just have the cohort (and the cohort's cohort etc.) fix stuff on the demiplane - including golem creation and other defensive measures. A few high-mid level spell casters of the wizard, cleric and druid persuasions also help a lot with demiplane construction and ecosystem management, in addition to the defensive possibilities! |
