Is there a "Spontaneously Combust Other" Power? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I've been looking through the XPH, maybe not close enough, but I'm not finding a power that I would have imagined that there had to be.

Something like a Save Or Die, no attack roll (so I guess Save and PR=Yes), just ... you look at someone from short to medium range, and they burst into flames and die?

I mean, "setting someone on fire with your mind" is just ... iconic psionics, to me.

Maybe I'm just not very creative, and not seeing one that works that I could reflavor. I don't want something that deals damage (except maybe on a failed save), something less Harm or Disintegrate, and more Slay Living. Except with FIRE. :D

Brief political joke:
No, this question is totally not inspired by watching a debate and grousing "I'm trying to will them to spontaneously combust, but they keep making their save :(", nosir not at all. :P

Matter agitation. It's even Save: No and PR: No.

Doesn't immediately make them die, but...

The psychokinetic has a ability called heat death that is a fire based save or die.

If you want to you make a new power based off of Recall Death.

Just change the flavor of a preexisting power, such as cranial deluge. MAKE HIM HEAD E'SPLODE WIF FIRE!

What's Cranial Deluge from? CPsi? If it's in the XPH, it's not in the SRD...

Out of curiosity, why's it three levels higher than Slay Living? Psionics isn't supposed to be as good at Save Or Dies? The DC is easier to Augment (if I read it higher)? Medium Range vs. Touch Attack is that powerful?

Yup. CPsi. Wish they'd had the idea BEFORE THAT PIECE OF MONKEY-EDITED TRIPE.

...Ahem.

Hm. Managed to get a look at it.

Hrm, makes me wonder. How many outright save-or-dies are there in Psionics? Disintigrate and Crisis of Life are the only two that come to mind, but I'm sure I'm missing another.

Not Save Or Suck, or Save Or Suck And Die, but outright one round you're alive, the next round I've willed you to fall over dead powers? :)

As I posted earlier Recall Death. It is an 8th level power :nonono:

Oh and Disintegrate, Psionicdeals damage. It isn't a save or die.

Why did I think it was "die, or take massive damage on a save" (wow, that would be kinda insane...)?

Blarg.

It's 'take incredibly massive damage on a failed save, then die from the damage and still take a decent amount on a successful save.'

Just think about what would happen if you used Twin Power and Split Psionic Ray on the same manifestation...

I went through the power list in CPsi. Intellect Bomb and Recall Death were the only save-or-die powers I could find. Urge Extermination operates like a Power Word-- no save, but doesn't work on creatures with too many HP. Decerebrate, Eye of the Basilisk, and Microcosm can render a target instantaneously or permanently helpless on a failed save, and Psychic Crush reduces a creature to -1 HP on a failed save.

There's a spell out there, I think, that's a ninth level (maybe?) save or die that makes the target explode with fire. It also damages everyone around the targetted creature. I obviously can't remember its name or where it's from, but if you can find it, you can try converting it into a power.

You're thinking Detonate from PH2. It's the first thing that came to my mind too.

Spontaneous combustion is down the pagehere (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20041029b).

No worry about the link, its to the Mind's Eye.

Hm ... Maybe.

But how does this look?

Conflagrate Other
You cause people to die in a fire. With your mind. Any questions?
Psychokinesis [Fire]
Level: Psion/Wilder 7, Kineticist 6
Display: Auditory and visual
Manifesting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target: One living creature
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Fortitude partial; see text
Power Resistance: Yes
Power Points: Psion/Wilder 13, Kineticist 11

With a focused and burning wrath, you cause the various and sundry component bits of your target to burst into sudden flame. If the target fails their saving throw, they are slain instantly, consumed from the inside out in a massive gout of flame. If the save is successful, they take 3d6 points of fire damage +2 points per manifester level.

Augment: You can augment this power as follows:
1. For every three additional power points you spend, this power's fire damage increases by 2d6 and this power's save DC increases by 1.
2. If you spend four additional power points and your target fails their save, all creatures within 30' of the target take the damage the target would take had they succeeded the save (reflex half).

It's basically an augmentable (heightenable) Finger Of Death. Except Psionic. And with fire. :D No monkeying about with 'maybe' killing them if you do enough damage. Total immolation. That sometimes spreads. :)

Looks good to me.

Considering (because I dislike outright SoDs, usually) a bonus to the save for resistances, something like +1 per five points you have of fire resistance.

And then on top of that, a two-point augment that changes it's type and the damage on a failed save, and obviously its flavor, too. Fire combusts you, sonic causes you to vibrate into dust, etc... Two points - maybe just one - because fire resistance is the most common, so being sonic makes it seem more powerful-ish.

And then also considering a -2 penalty to the save for people who have a subtype weak to the type (cold for fire, fire for cold, mostly)

Anyone got thoughts?

Immolative Glare (yes, yes, the title sucks, I know)

This should actually read "Fortitude partial (see text)"
