I think a paladin/psychic warrior PrC is a kinda cool idea, so I tried writing one up. I felt the need to put the dreamy stuff in mainly for flavor -- not sure how it works out. I think it may be overpowered, but hey, it's easily nerfable by doing a few things -- taking out a bit of psychic warrior progression, taking away the bonus feats, etc. I'm posting it as is anyway, though, because I think my first instincts are usually to make things a tad underpowered, so I'll see if by overshooting my own instincts, I can actually get it right.

Knight of the Fourth Quor Tarai
"Nightmares are but dreams of fear. Conquer fear, and nightmares have no power." -- Amadeas Crineu, Knight of the Fourth Quor Tarai

The Knights of the Fourth Quor Tarai are idealistic, devout followers of the Path of Light with a distinctly martial bent. They regard themselves as emissaries of a future age -- a more hopeful age, when the age has turned, and the Darkness that Dreams at the heart of Dal Quor is no more, replaced by a new, more hopeful incarnation. Combining the divine gifts of the paladin and the psionic talent of the psychic warrior, knights of the fourth Quor Tarai go beyond the abilities of either and take on an entirely new discipline -- spreading hope through the dreams of their allies. Unlike the Quori dream manipulation in Dal Quor, this ability only works on those who consent, and cannot implant suggestions or communicate information. However, it can give dreamers renewed strength, vitality, and hope in facing the next day.

Knights of the Fourth Quor Tarai frequently make a conscious effort to appear as classical "knights in shining armor." This is not out of vanity, but because they see their duty as being as much to spread hope throughout the world as to fight evil with swords and bows, and believe that even their mundane appearance can be one factor among the many that can help them in bringing about the turning of the age. Their appearance demonstrates an audacious confidence that the world can change for the better, and that the current age of darkness will not be permanent.

Knights of the Fourth Quor Tarai are generally welcomed in adventuring parties, although some of the more dour, grim adventuring parties find their incessant optimism and serene hopefulness to be grating and idiotic. Only twenty-three Knights of the Fourth Quor Tarai currently exist in Eberron, as of Y.K. 998. Among their numbers are counted several kalashtar, humans, half-giants, and half-elves, one changeling, and one aasimar.

Class Features:

Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: Knights of the Fourth Quor Tarai gain no proficiency in weapons or armor

Powers Known: At each level, Knights of the Fourth Quor Tarai gain powers known and power points as if they had gained a level of psychic warrior.

Paladin Abilities: A paladin who takes levels in Knight of the Fourth Quor Tarai can continue to advance as a paladin. Furthermore, paladin levels stack with Knight of the Fourth Quor Tarai levels in determining damage from smiite evil and the abilities and duration of the paladin's special mount. Even if the paladin cannot summon a mount when she first becomes a Knight of the Fourth Quor Tarai, she gains the ability when her combined paladin and knight of the fourth quor tarai levels equal the level needed for a paladin to summon such a mount.

Dream of Hope (su): Beginning at 3rd level, Knights of the Fourth Quor Tarai are able to help allies (including themselves) dream dreams that are refreshing, hopeful, and invigorating. They cannot manipulate the dreams of those who would be unwilling to have their dreams altered in this manner, nor can they use this power to suggest any particular course of action or idea to the ally, nor can they alter the dreams to carry some emotion other than hope and renewal. These dreams grant the dreamers in inner reserve of strength that they can tap at some point in the next day. If Nightmare is cast on an ally who has been subjected to the Dream of Hope ability, the Nightmare dispels the Dream of Hope but does not have any other effects. Two consecutive castings of Nightmare on someone experiencing a Dream of Hope could have the normal effects of a single Nightmare. The maximum number of allies affected in a single night by the Knight of the Fourth Quor Tarai's ability is equal to the Knight of the Fourth Quor Tarai's class level.

Someone who has been subjected to a Dream of Hope the previous night may choose to draw upon the reserve of inner strength granted by the dream, gaining a +1 morale bonus to saving throws against charm and fear effects, attack rolls, and weapon damage rolls for a number of total number of rounds per day equal to the Knight of the Fourth Quor Tarai's level in the prestige class, divided at the discretion of the character receiving the Dream of Hope. At 6th level, the morale bonus increases to +2. At 9th level, the morale bonus increases to +3.

Only allies who dream can be affected by this power. (i.e., those who sleep normally, such as dwarves, humans, halflings, etc, but not those who do not sleep normally or cannot dream, such as elans, elves, kalashtar, and warforged.) Only people within 60 feet of the Knight of the Fourth Quor Tarai throughout their sleep can be affected by the Dream of Hope. The Knight of the Fourth Quor Tarai does not need to be awake to cause others to affect them with the Dream of Hope ability. To be affected by the Dream of Hope, someone must ordinarily get a full eight hours of sleep, although this can be reduced with Rings of Sustenance, for instance, to whatever level of sleep is necessary. Regardless of such effects, someone must sleep at least part of the night to be affected.

Bonus Feat: The Knight of the Fourth Quor Tarai gains a bonus psionic or divine feat at level 4 and at level 8.

Smite Evil (Su): The Knight of the Fourth Quor Tarai gains a daily use of Smite Evil at 5th level, and another use at 10th level, as with the Paladin ability of the same name.

Holy Meditation (Su): At 10th level, the Knight of the Fourth Quor Tarai gains the ability to expend one usage of Turn Undead to become psionically focused as a swift action.

Actually, why not let the "divine mind" in, since it seems like a better fit for a paladin multi-class (not that you'd actually want to play a divine mind, but whatever)?

As for your question: the short answer is that I don't have complete psionic.

Anyway, I'm not sure I understand how you think the divine mind fits. It's currently a paladin/psychic warrior prestige class. Are you saying that it would be better as a paladin/divine mind prestige class, or are you saying that it would be better as a divine mind/psychic warrior prestige class? In short, are you saying that the divine mind should replace the paladin parts of this class, or that the divine mind should replace the psychic warrior parts of this class?

Wow. I can't really see anything wrong with this class. It's well written and well thought out, and doesn't seem too out there. Only Holy Meditation catches my eye, but considering the earliest this class can be finished (Turn Undead comes in at 4th) is 18th level, that doesn't seem out of line. You could even go as far as to give the class a good Will Save, even considering they have Divine Grace.

Well, given how little this class gives up relative to a straight paladin or psychic warrior (true, it has the "theurge"-like weakness of requiring a mix of classes beforehand, but since paladin/psychic warrior isn't a bad mix in the first place, that isn't too significant), giving it a good will save seems like going overboard. Then again, as I mentioned, I do have a slight tendency toward creating weak classes. I thought, though, that I had surely overcompensated on this one. Heh. Maybe not. I still tend to think good will save is too much, but anyone else think Xaxor is right?

Holy meditation is supposed to be pretty good. It's supposed to be a capstone ability to make the class worthwhile through all ten levels. :)

Another possible problem is that some might say that saying "well, there's evil dream manipulation of the sort that the quori, night hags, and people who cast Nightmare do, and there's good dream manipulation of the sort that knights of the fourth Quor Tarai do" just muddles things a bit -- like all those endless arguments about animating skeletons and using them for good purposes. Some might prefer to just leave dream manipulation in the realm of the bad guys. *shrugs*

Mainly, though, my objective is just to find a thinly-veiled excuse for a bump.

Have you tried a Paladin/Wilder Build? Just max that Charisma.

Paladin/wilder does seem like a kinda fun idea.
