| Deathmond04-06-08, 10:44 PM | Is there any 3.0 or 3.5 rule that states psionics can't be used while wearing a lead helm? I've never seen it, but my DM insists he's read it somewhere. He just switched from 2ed, so I think he's confusing it with something he read there. |
| kyeudo04-06-08, 11:44 PM | Only spells and powers that specificly they don't go through lead are affected by lead. No powers I am aware of are negated by lead. |
| Deathmond04-07-08, 12:03 AM | That's what I thought. I was pretty sure he was just pulling it out of 2ed. |
| CrimsonDeath04-07-08, 12:06 AM | Only spells and powers that specificly they don't go through lead are affected by lead. No powers I am aware of are negated by lead. Detect Psionics, if you have the blast shield down. (Of course, you always have the option of just not wearing a helmet. Or, if you must wear a helmet, not wearing a lead one.) |
| Deathmond04-07-08, 12:09 AM | It wasn't me WANTING my character to wear a helm that bothered me. It was him having one forcibly strapped to his head. |
| Lycanthromancer04-07-08, 12:30 AM | This would certainly be an easy way to counter psionics (like some of the easy ways to counter magic), but it's not something I necessarily agree with. |
| Shaggy_Shaggs04-07-08, 12:37 AM | Tell him your psionics come from your other head. Or your backside. |
| Lycanthromancer04-07-08, 12:47 AM | Psionics comes from the harmony and interaction between mind and body (hence psychometabolism powers). It's not like Clark Kent's X-Ray vision. Though I wouldn't mind HAVING X-ray vision, if only to... ... ... ...Nevermind. |
| Shaggy_Shaggs04-07-08, 12:53 AM | I've always seen psionics as like divine magic (or rather divine magic like psionics, at least from my perspective) -- will and belief so strong that reality gives up and agrees because it has no other option. But I figure if his DM is going to be ridiculous, he might as well be ridiculous back and at least see about getting a laugh out of it. |
| Lycanthromancer04-07-08, 01:01 AM | So, you eat monsters and **** psionics? Wouldn't that make psionics 'crap'? This line of logic makes absolutely no sense. Does. Not. Compute. *System breakdown* |
| CrimsonDeath04-07-08, 01:48 AM | If you want to be maudlin, you could tell him that psionics comes from the heart. |
| Jaid04-07-08, 10:12 PM | mind you, i would imagine wearing a lead helmet would be pretty distracting what with the weight of it and all. |
| turalisj04-07-08, 10:26 PM | Tell him your psionics come from your other head. Or your backside. Psion: I start rubbing my crotch.... |
| Lycanthromancer04-07-08, 10:29 PM | THAT explains the material...dis...plays? Um...I'm shutting up now. |
| BloodSpill04-07-08, 11:10 PM | Oh look, a DM that has decided to allow psionics, but only if there's a way for him to still completely screw over said psionic character without giving the character 24,000gp worth of psionic restraints should he or she escape capture. Eww. |
| SlanderPanic04-07-08, 11:17 PM | That's what I thought. I was pretty sure he was just pulling it out of 2ed. Hmm. Lemme whip out my trusty, musty Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Second Edition Complete Psionics Handbook. Psionic combat? Check. Ridiculous level restrictions for nonhuman races? Check. All psionic items are intelligent? Check. Hilarious captions for the illustrations? Hahahaha, check. Lead helmets block psionics? I can't seem to find it. Let me try the index. Nope, nothing there. My analysis: Your DM pulled it out of his rear... which is where you should launch your fire missiles from next time you use them. |
| Salla04-07-08, 11:21 PM | My analysis: Your DM pulled it out of his rear... which is where you should launch your fire missiles from next time you use them. Do D&D worlds even *have* Taco Bells? |
| Ecalsneerg04-08-08, 11:22 AM | The Far Realm and Xoriat, if you play Eberron. |

| Jaid04-08-08, 10:08 PM | Yes, that rules exists in 2nd ed. It does exist in 3rd. if by that you meant it *doesn't* exist in third, you are correct. |
| calronmoonflower04-08-08, 10:49 PM | if by that you meant it *doesn't* exist in third, you are correct. Opps, that is what I meant, but not what I typed. |
| The_Mess04-08-08, 11:27 PM | Must be inconvenient on expeditions to the Brain Slug planet. No, it is very convenient on the Brain Slug planet. Helmets are inconvenient. Here, let me show you. |
| BloodSpill04-09-08, 04:32 AM | *weakly* Urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. |
| CrimsonDeath04-09-08, 04:57 AM | No, it is very convenient on the Brain Slug planet. Helmets are inconvenient. Here, let me show you. You are absolutely right. The Brain Slug planet is a very fun place to walk around, not wearing a helmet. Everyone should try it. |
| SlanderPanic04-09-08, 10:35 AM | Do D&D worlds even *have* Taco Bells? You win the thread. Well-played, sir. actually, in 2e psionics you couldn't wear any kind of helmet at all. it's right in the description of the psionicist class when discussing what kind of armor they can use. Woops. You're correct. It's right there on page 16, though there's a caveat allowing the use of psionically-active helmets or helmets with certain magical enchantments. Not that it tells you what a "psionically-active" helmet is or which enchantments allow a psionicist to function. |
