Psionic base class; full BAB; good Reflex Save.

Does one exist?

Sources allowed?

I.e. if you want WotC only, it doesn't exist.

Well, if it doesn't exist in WotC, I might as well branch out to any source and see if the DM will allow it. The sky's the limit!

Marksman class from Untapped Potential. It is ranged focused, not sure if that's what you're looking for.

Well, I was really just looking for any options, because I know they aren't many (or any!).

The build is a Monk/PsyWar grappler, and I need to squeeze in a dip at 4th level. A psionic class would be nice to gain a power; the +1 to BAB is needed to qualify for the feat trees I want; +2 to Reflex save would go great with Evasion (especially since Dex is a weakness).

Ooh. Marksman from UTP, with the feat that allows you to throw punches at range...

The closest I can think of is the Lurk from complete psionic, it doesn't have a full BAB but it's psionic, has a good reflex save, and adds in a good will save for free!

What's UTP?

That feat is Touch the Gold Bell -- and it has a ton of prereqs. I think about 4 or 5 other feats; most of which I will be getting, but not until late levels (15-20).

UTP = Untapped Potential, from Dreamscarred Press.

I'm doing work for them, but I had nothing to do with UTP, so it's all good. :)

Anyway, this is a different feat. A psionic one. Either that, or it was a power; I don't remember...

It's a feat. Psychokinetic Fists. Works well with monks (since it was intended for them...), since it required Improved Unarmed Strike.

08-31-07, 04:03 PM
Yes, that. Now, if we could just have some marksman options for flying fists o' fury. Anything you'd like to add, Bacris?

Not really :p Marksman wasn't really designed with the Monk in mind, as they fill pretty different roles. If the OP is just looking for a full-bab / good ref / psionic base class, the marksman fits the bill, but his other class features really aren't going to mesh very well...

... Wisdom mantra synergy with ranged psychokinetic fists. Pretty cool.

How far is the range? And, what are the prereqs for this feat? I can't seem to find Untapped Potential anywhere.

Go to dreamscarredpress's website. You can get it from there.

Psionic base class; full BAB; good Reflex Save.

Why do you want a Psionic Base class? Couldn't a Psionic race with a core class work? If yes, you could try a Xeph ranger... And if you really want a psionic class, you could take a Prestige Class like Slayer (Full BAB but weak Ref save, not that worse after a few ranger levels) or Psionic Fist (Good ref save, but average BAB, not that worse after a few ranger levels).
If you mix all that, you could end with a great BAB and a base reflex save almost as high as 20th level ranger.

I thought that he said somewhere that this was just a 1-level dip. I could be wrong, though.

I finally got my hands on Untapped Potential (great stuff in there) and realized my 1-level dip should actually be a 3-level dip in Half-Giant Paragon. Problem solved there.

I was uable to find the feat: Psychokinetic Fists. Can someone confirm what book it's in? I'm very curious about this feat since my character is lacking a ranged attack.

Here's the whole thing:

PSYCHOKINETIC FISTS [PSIONIC]
You can punch people from across the room -- useful during debates.
Prerequisites: Improved Unarmed Strike, Charisma 13
Benefit: You must expend your psionic focus to use this feat. When you do, you may use one of the two following options.
1. As a standard action which provokes attacks of opportunity, you may make a single unarmed strike against any target within medium range (100 ft plus 10 ft per character level). You must have line of sight and line of effect to this target. This unarmed strike uses your Charisma modifier in place of your Strength modifier for attack and damage rolls, and deals force damage (treat it as a power with the force descriptor that ignores power resistance) instead of bludgeoning damage.
2. As a swift action, your unarmed strikes or natural weapons extend their reach by 5 ft until the beginning of your next turn as they generate psychokinetic fields. Tiny creatures gain 5-foot reach, Small and Medium characters gain 10-foot reach, Large gain reach 15 feet, and so on. The close proximity of the target means the damage is unchanged.
Since both options are a psychokinetic effect, not a normal unarmed strike, you are not affected by spells, powers, or abilities that effect you as a natural consequence of coming into contact with their effects, such as the On Fire UT feat or the rending rift UT power, although such abilities that activate because you struck at all, such as energy retort, still activate as normal.

Thanks.

It's on page 55.

Not on my page 55. My page 55 has "Root of the Mountain" through "Way of the Empty Palm." Feats that start with "P" are on page 54, but no Psychokinetic Fists is listed!

Anyway, thanks for the help. I don't think I'll be able to use this feat -- Charisma was going to be my dump. :(

It's the difference between the original Untapped Potential and the Expanded ;)

I forgot we incorporated some of BlaineTog's and AntiDjinn's feats, in addition to their other material.

Ironically, Bacris got the copyright wrong. (There's two copyright notices for UTP; Psychokinetic Fists only shows up in the second.) This is especially odd because the missing name... is the guy who holds copyright on that one feat (Blaine was the author of that feat in its original form; I tweaked a few things with his approval for final inclusion.)

I do have the original, not the "expanded." The publisher told me:

"The original version has no illustrations and does not have 2 of the newest
prestige classes, the variant soulknife, variant wilder, or organizational
specialty levels."

So, I didn't know I'd be missing out on feats. I wonder what else I might be missing out on.

Also, I noticed that the Psychokinetic Fists feat is almost identical to the Elan Monk's Metaphysical Strike (Su) ability. The main difference being Charisma-based instead of Wisdom. Why the difference? And why would it be Charisma-based anyway? What does mentally throwing a punch over 100' away have to do with charisma?

Just curious. If Psychokinetic Fists was Wisdom-based, I'd grab it in a heartbeat!

Two prestige classes, a handful of interesting feats, and a few other minor tweaks here and there. For instance, see below.

One of the revisions in the 'expanded' edition (which should have *replaced* the original in our stores; I don't know why it didn't) is to have Metaphysical Strike grant a Wisdom-based Psychokinetic Fists as a bonus feat.

Now, to counter the Charisma-dependency: What does throwing a punch with your mind -- imposing your will on reality -- have to do with *wisdom*?

Now, to counter the Charisma-dependency: What does throwing a punch with your mind -- imposing your will on reality -- have to do with *wisdom*?

Technically, it has the most to do with Psionics. And, the feat should be based on the ability that your class draws upon to focus and manifest psionic powers. In my case, it is Psychic Warrior, and should be Wisdom.

Alas, you are avoiding my question. Why Charisma?
Lycanthromancer

Charisma is defined in the PHB as the 'strength of the mind.' Need I say more?

Charisma is defined in the PHB as the 'strength of the mind.' Need I say more?

Huh? Please tell me what page it says that.

This is what the PHB says about Charisma on page 9:

Charisma measures a character’s force of personality, persuasiveness, personal magnetism, ability to lead, and physical attractiveness. This ability represents actual strength of personality, not merely how one is perceived by others in a social setting. Charisma is most important for paladins, sorcerers, and bards. It is also important for clerics, since it affects their ability to turn undead. Every creature has a Charisma score.

It says nothing about 'strength of the mind.' It does say 'strength of personality.'
Lycanthromancer

09-06-07, 11:47 PM
Yes, that. :)

I don't have my PHB with me, at the moment.
