RtrnofdMax 01-23-08, 02:58 PM	Hello all, I am using a custom Weapon of Legacy that applies both PP and manifester level penalties to my Ardent. The loss of power points at various levels makes complete sense to me. I need a clarification of what a loss of manifester level means. My character is currently 7th level, so if he undergoes the least legacy ritual, he will lose a manifester level. Understandably, he will manifest powers as if he were a 6th level Ardent but does he also lose the ability to manifest the 4th level powers on his mantle lists? Will he also only receive bonus power points for his ability score based upon if he were a 6th level Ardent? Thank you for your help. Max
AntiDjinn 01-23-08, 03:07 PM	If your level 7 ardent becomes manifester level 6 then he will only be able to spend up to 6 points on a power manifestation. That is insufficient to manifest a 4th level power, so he does loose the ability to manifest 4th level powers. Whether or not he actually forgets the 4th level power he knows is DM's call. He needed ML 7 to learn the power, but dropping below ML 7 may not make him unlearn it. It could matter if he has Overchannel or Practiced Manifester. If neither of those apply, then you may be better off loosing the power since you might change your mind about the best 4th level power option by you next level-up.

AntiDjinn 01-23-08, 03:57 PM	As long as you don't loose a character level it should work. When your ML is lower than your CL, practiced manifester kicks in.

It shouldn't say "character level" or "caster level". It should say "manifester level". And if you're taking a penalty to manifester level, then that probably affects your bonus PP.

Bacris 01-24-08, 09:58 AM	I don't have my copy of Weapons of Legacy handy, but I'm pretty sure the section on decreased manifester levels specifically says what it applies to. And despite what the table says, the text says: "How To Determine Bonus Power Points: Your key ability score grants you additional power points equal to your key ability modifier x your manifester level x1/2. Table: Ability Modifiers and Bonus Power Points shows these calculations for class levels 1st through 20th and key ability scores from 10 to 41" Text trumps table unless errata specifies otherwise.

I am only trying not to sacrifice more than I have to. I made an awesome sword so I am not worried about losing a couple PPs. The manifester levels...we'll have to see how much they hurt before I spend a feat on practiced manifester.
