Can someone provide a clean example of using link power with a metapower'ed power and how it is actually beneficial?

Link power requires you expend your focus (for two points) to link to another power, and metapower reduces by 2 the cost of the power it applies to, so if you link two powers, this is a wash? Or is it even worse since (maybe I misread it) metapower also requires expending your focus, which you don't have due to link power?

Linked Power by itself just needs to expend your psionic focus.
The extra PP cost is the PP number needed to manifest the linked power on the next round.

So with a metapower (with Linked Power chosen to work with it), you expend your focus and the PP cost of the linked is reduced by 2. You may manifest your metapower fully augmented and link a power with a cost of 1 or 2 PP for free (except for the focus to expend).

An example, you chose the deflection field power as a metapower that works with Linked Power. As a swift action, you manifest deflection field and expend your focus to link vigor. You gain 10 "free" temporary hp, and only pay the PP cost for further augmentation of vigor.
Then if you are a 1st level psion, you get the deflection field benefit and a costless 2nd level manifested fully augmented vigor just by expending your psionic focus.
If you are a higher level psion, you get a quickened vigor delayed by one round for a bonus of 1PP on augmentation.
It works with catfall as a metapower for an immediate action, but this power is bad :(
