Hello, everyone! ^_^

Ok, here's the situation... As I have mentioned before, I'm playing an Elan Soulknife. Recently, my DM allowed me to buy a new psionic item, and I chose a Mind Blade Gauntlet (MIC, pg 117). Now I'm trying to convince the DM to allow this gauntlet to also let my PC use the Shape Mind Blade ability to manifest the mind blade in bastard sword form. :)

BTW: I know many people consider that, after using Shape Mind Blade, the mind blade maintains its "new" form until reshaped. My interpretation (and my DM's) is that the mind blade always reverts to its "basic" form (short sword) whenever it's dissipated.

The problem is: how much would Shape Mind Blade cost, in addition to the regular price for the Gauntlet? And how, exactly, should the item's activation time be affected? What restrictions could (or should) be enforced to reduce the cost?

This is what we (me and the DM) have come up with (so far):

The ability to manifest a reshaped mind blade would have a fixed cost, that could be added to the cost of any version of Mind Blade Gauntlet (lesser, regular or greater).

The activation time would change from free action to standard action. (Remember: Shape Mind Blade, in itself, takes a full-round action) You still have to expend your psionic focus while manifesting.

This reshaped mind blade would have the duration of 1 minute, as per the gauntlet's usual effect. After this 1 minute, the mind blade dissipates.

What do you think? Is it balanced enough? How much should it cost? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance! :)

Usually, an item that duplicates a class feature (Ring of Evasion) or feat (Glove of Storing) costs around 10,000 gp. That may be a good place to start on the price of a Mind Blade Gauntlet of Shaping. (Personally, I wouldn't buy one at that price.)

What feat is a Glove of Storing duplicating?

I'd suggest adding the price of the weapon you want to shape it into onto the cost. I mean, does the Rogue have to take a full-round action to prepare his Returning Dagger for another attack? Does a Wizard have to wait a round between using his class features? It really shouldn't take too much to be able to do something that no other class in the game even has to worry about and that gives, on average, an additional 1 point of damage when you've already wasted an exotic weapon proficiency on it (though if you're using it two-handed, the last bit doesn't apply, but it's still not a gamebreaker to make this cheap). If you want, throw on the Masterwork cost, even though that still won't get you anything in-game.
