More neat stuff is available here.

Seer:
-Psychic Knowledge isn't amazing, but still decent. It would be better if it could be used to qualify for stuff as bardic knowledge, though.
-Fate points are also good to have, though some clarification will be needed on whether they are treated as action points or not. The article itself seems to use them interchangeably.

Shaper:
-Trinkets is another one of those quirky Talent-like effects. Not all that useful in combat, but highly versatile in the hands of a creative player.
-Personal Construct sounds great, especially in the hands of a constructor who doesn't yet have Quickened Construction (available only at ECL 16+).

Telepath:
-Isn't the telepathy quality why people use the Mindbender PrC so much? And here telepaths can get it with much less hassle.
-Harbinger looks rather weak, considering that you have to spend 5 PP (+2.5 power levels for the purpose of save DCs) to force a Will save on the target, and only if that save fails can you get an average increase of two power levels. It can be used as a backdoor augmentation for those powers that don't have saving throw augmentations, but it still isn't that great.

- As a DM I would allow Psychic Knowledge to qualify for stuff as bardic knowledge. And I also think that it fits very good to a Seer.
- As I read it, you get two Feats if you already use Action Points but you must use your Action Points to power this ability. I think this is fair.

Shaper:

I also think Shaper will love the new possibilities they got.

- And it fits good to him. ;)
- As you can only choose Telepathic Communication or Harbinger (both are exchanged for the 5th level feat) most will choose Telepathic Communication but for someone going for Save or Die effects Harbinger might be a nice addition.

I'm not sure I see why a clarification is needed. If you're playing in a game that doesn't even use action points normally, why would you need to determine whether or not they were "treated" as action points? And if you're playing in Eberron or another action-point-allowed setting, this doesn't give you more action points, it just gives you two feats that boost your action point die size and give you an extra way to spend those points.

I'm a little miffed that they didn't give enough information on action points to actually use them without buying the Eberron Campaign Setting; no info on how they replenish, how many you get, how they improve as you level up, or what the Action Surge and Action Boost feats do. (Granted, I'm only slightly miffed because I own the Eberron Campaign Setting and I love it and I think everyone should use it, but that's beside the point.) For DMs that don't use action points on a regular basis and don't know where to find the SRD page on them (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/actionPoints.htm), there's not enough info here for them to justify allowing this feature for a player who wants to try it out.

Personal Construct
You have a favored astral construct form that you can summon at a moment's notice.
Level: 5th.
Replaces: The bonus feat at 5th level.
Prerequisite: You must know the astral construct power.
Benefit: You can create a specific astral construct that you have chosen as your favored as if you had the Quickened Power feat, by only sacrificing your psionic focus. This personal construct, once chosen, always has the same abilities and appearance every time you summon it. Each time you gain a level, you may change the abilities and appearance of your favored construct.

Does that at all infer that it must be used in conjunction with manifesting the Astral Construct power? It looks like "expend focus, get your favored construct instantly without expending power points".

Personal Construct is cool. Also, telepathy is now easy to get, and boy, here comes Mindsight!

I concur. Mindsight, here my telepath comes.

Personal Construct seems a little too good. A quicken construct without paying for the metapower cost and all you need to do is expend your focus. Quicken at will seems a little much, or maybe I'm missing something?

What bardic knowledge feats are there again?
I mean, I'll go and look over the CAdv when I get home to have a look, but are there other sources that I need to investigate?
I've already discussed with my DM that I would be swapping out a feat for the psychic knowledge ability because it suits my character in a massive way, falling well within the lore seeker archetype, so it would be good to know what other useful abilities can be bought with other feats.

Thanks for the new options, D&M!

It just lists that it works like a specialized Quicken Power. So You will still have to pay for you construct. But you can call an Construct of max possible level as a quick action. Quite nice. :D

You miss, that you must set the options for the construct at levelup. Not even at start of the adventure. This construct might be useless in some conditions. You can only call this one construct in an instant. If you want a construct, that matches the current situation, you still need the full round to create it.

[edit] removed the word action, that was wrong. ;)

Why a full-round action?

Why a full-round action?

Astral Construct
Metacreativity (Creation)
Level: Shaper 1
Display: Visual; see text
Manifesting Time: 1 round
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Effect: One created astral construct
Duration: 1 round/level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Power Resistance: No
Power Points: 1

Bolded line is why it takes a full round. This ability only functions on the personal construct. For any other variety of constructs you have to manifest the power normally.
Calain80

04-11-07, 07:44 AM
Sorry I meant 1 full round.

@cymbolik: He knows that it takes a full round. But I wrote "a full round action", witch is a lot shorter timespan. :embarrass

Maybe I can excuse myself that I'm not a native speaker?

No?

Ok. I 'll have to live with this error. ;)

I see it as equivalent to a feat that gains you a companion/cohort, except you have to keep expending your psionic focus to keep it around.

Overall a good variety of options. Some of them are underwhelming, but that may be that they just don't cater to my play style :) But hey, I'm happy with new psi-content when it's decent quality. :)

And yeah, having to choose your construct's choices at level-up means you either choose something that is sort of a modest use in any situation or great use in a certain situation. Flight / Swim / Energy menu options aren't something you'd want to choose for a permanent construct but might be something you need later. That seems reasonable to me.

The Expanded Class options for Shaper, Seer and Telepath are up and I must say that I'm somewhat disappointed.

The shapers "personal construct" idea was pretty solid, allowing them to manifest a particular "Astral Construct" configuration as a swift action by expending their psionic focus (Quicken Power without the PP cost), but otherwise the Shaper felt lackluster with the "minor minor creation".

The Seer's "fate points" was kinda cool and in an Eberron game they are exchanging one feat for two pretty good feats (Action Surge and Action Boost) but I am wondering if these two "fit" all that well for the Seer?

Either way, the "bardic knowledge" thing was the real kicker with the Seer, allowing me to style my Seers as "tapping" the world-wide subconsciousness to draw forth tidbits of information.

The telepath finally gets telepathy at 5 feet per manifester level, which kindoff makes mindlink and missive, and other lower level powers useless. Sure, the range is 25 feet at 5th level, but still.

The second telepath variant is the worst ever - you need a pretty useless power and get to spend 5pp for a possible +1d3 DC which can be resisted with a save. What a joke. For this you loose a feat? It also fails to state the DC for the Will-save. I'd rather go with Psionic Endowment and spend my psionic focus for a sure +1 DC rather than 5 pp for a possible 1-3.

I really liked the options. The trinket, psionic knowledge and the telephaty thing are very fitting for the diciplines. Im totally using this rules.

The only downside is the mention of Ecthopic Forms and pokemon-like calling of the AC. Man, that hurt my fellings. I love shaper...:weep:

Darn, this topic was nice and hidden. Oh well, mine should be locked shortly.

I had to laugh at "I call you, Ebony Stinger!" Pokemon in my D&D? It's more likely than you think.

I freaking love Psychic Knowledge, Personal Construct, and Telepathic Communication. Harbinger is beyond useless. The rest are okay.

I'm playing a 4th level gnome shaper, and the Personal Construct ability is perfect for him.

So let me get this straight- you want a higher DC because your opponent probably has a good save.

So therefore you: spend 5 extra pp to get a plus 1d3 on the save DC, yet this 1d3 is first dependent on him failing a DC of the same amount as your power in the first place?

Whats the point? If your opponent has good saves, you were better off taking Psionic Endowment. If he doesn't have good saves then you dont need this harbinger. lame.

The only purpose I can see is if you opponent has a poor will save and you are targeting him with a power that allows a fortitude or reflex save and he has a better fortitude or reflex save than will save.

Its still stupid. But hey, trinkets and Personal construct are great, and The telepathy thing is AWESOME. Fate points isn't bad, but is put to shame by the concept of Psychic knowledge.

But it only functions on mind effecting powers which almost exclusively require will saves

{ ... by the way Richmud, thanks for the underscore_ . I guess the possessive plural is underscores' , pronounced like gollum ...}

Good Stuff.

Psychic Knowledge is keyed to ML, so PractisedManifester works it's magic here. Nice.
A less brokey combo for Psiotheurgist feat.

Fate Points adds 3.5 vs. the 7th level re-roll power that adds maybe 4 on a U shaped curve. Very Good.
I don't know the Eberron AP system well enough, but 2 feats are better than one and AP is baaad.

Trinkets : Better than the feat eliminating material components. Very Abusible. Effectively an extra action. :D
Cerebremancers should love this. Didn't Lokiyn do a Minor Creation guide ---> link

Personal Construct is another patch on the AC-nerf. Just do this with Druids - PLEASE. It's good anyway.

Telepathic Communicator - ahh , the poor Mindbender adaptation is now unnessary. Psy-ref / PHB2 retraining when taking this for the now unneeded powers.

Harbinger is a belated April Fools joke, just to see if the Psi-board was paying attention. It's a ...
harbinger of fluff to come. All the meta-psi feats should have a display + description of said display.
Its kinda like the commercial where the one guy says "everybody loves you" ; second guys says "aww, shucks" ; first guy says "watch" and throws a cactus at third guy ; who is PO'ed until figuring its the second guy. If you are still reading this, you are one of those three guys ... ;)

actually, harbinger is not so much a harbinger of things to come, as it is a harbinger of things long past (if there can be such a thing).

that is, the concept is directly taken from the will and the way, a 2nd edition (athas/dark sun, kinda) psionics supplement. in fact, if you look at some of the 'harbingers', and compare them to those in the will and the way, you'll find they match up ;)

as far as why harbinger seems so bad, i suspect it's because half of it is missing; if you look at it, you may notice that it looks an awful lot like it's supposed to provide a bonus to defensive powers as well. which, i think you'll agree, would make it at least a little more appealing... that would also fit in with the 2nd edition idea better, as those who did not use harbingers were at a disadvantage to those who do.
