ok this is a simple question :
if you use true midn switch to get the body of a monster with LA ( what, i think, anyone would probably do) do you get that LA ?

It's not covered in the rules, but I say yes.

By the RAW you seem to lose one character level to get a free +LA body.

Pretty good deal, really.

As with any posession ability you do not aquire a LA with true mind switch. It may be a bit broken but no moreso then polymorph or anything similar.

Might be good for people to put references and quotes here, rather than just making statements. Why wouldn't a person who takes a body with True Mind-Switch get the templates that the creature has? Or are you stating that they get the template, but the LA doesn't apply to them, giving them a free template (for the cost of True MS)?

Some quotes:

As mind switch, except as noted here. You permanently exchange bodies with the subject. Since this power’s duration is instantaneous, you cannot be forced to return to your natural body by means of dispel psionics, an antimagic field, or a similar effect. If the subject’s body dies while you are in it, you are dead. The subject immediately loses one level, but otherwise survives the experience in your natural body. If your natural body dies while the subject is in it, you immediately lose one level, but you likewise survive the experience in your new body.

* You gain the type of your assumed body.
* You gain the Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores of your assumed body.
* You gain the natural armor, natural attacks, movement, and other simple physical characteristics of your assumed body.
* You gain the extraordinary special attacks and qualities of your assumed body, but you do not gain supernatural or spell-like abilities.
* You gain the possessions and equipment of your assumed body.
* You retain your own hit points, saving throws (possibly modified by new ability scores), class abilities, supernatural and spell-like abilities, spells and powers, and skills and feats (although skill checks use your new ability scores, and you may be temporarily unable to use feats whose requirements you do not meet in your new body).

Or are you stating that they get the template, but the LA doesn't apply to them, giving them a free template (for the cost of True MS)?

Yeah, that's what it seems to be.

A slightly different Polymorph, that lasts longer, and costs more, and ditches LA's.

Why Not.

deathwishjoe's Mr.Roboto build and this, would be fun.

By the RAW you seem to lose one character level to get a free +LA body.

Pretty good deal, really.

Slightly cheaper cost would perhaps be:

Thought Bottle (Store xp, 500xp cost)
Mind switch (100xp, 11pp)
Astral Seed (15pp)
Suicide (free?)
Regrow body (10days)
Thought Bottle (remove negative level)

You keep the body, it's non-evil (the other guy's still alive afterwards), but you don't take the negative level (Astral Seed/death). Which means there's a higher chance of you persuading a Dragon to fail it's save if it can tell the difference between the two. Who, incidently would probably be quite happy to kill you afterwards too. :)

You could probably expanded knowledge(Astral Seed (@18th) / Midswitch (@15th)) as needed. Reforming out later is optional.

On that note:

1) Could you use metamorphosis to change into the desired critter?
(15HD limit might be a problem, but Metamorphosis, Gtr would also then be usable)

2) Your DM may make the xp costs non-refundable from the Thought Bottle, but by that level, they're nothing)

3) What's the xp reward for persuading a dragon to allow you to mind switch with him before he kills you?
