Monastic Training and Tashalatora [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-12-07, 05:18 PM I posted this over on the Eberron Combat, Arms & Armor board, but I'll give it a shot, here, too.

Um...just checking on this; if I'm reading these feats right, you don't actually have to have any levels in monk to gain the benefits, right? You could be...say...a pyschic warrior, take monastic training [Psychic Warrior] at first level, then at third take Tashalatora [Psychic Warrior] (From secrets of Sarlona), and by say, level 10, be psychic warrior 10, with unarmed strike at 1d10 damage, flurry of blows at no penalty, and +2 to your AC. Granted, you'd still have to take the Improved Unarmed Strike feat, since by not taking that 1st level of monk, your unarmed strikes would still provoke, and you wouldn't gain your wisdom to AC, but whatever...

So, am I right on this? And, I've gone back 7 pages on the psionics board, and didn't see anything that mentions this, so sorry if it's already come up.

03-12-07, 05:36 PM Monastic Training doesn't require monk level 1st? Sounds like you have just found a bug in the RAW. Now if we can only find a way to make Dervish and Tempest psionic classes and we can have a charecter with ridiculus attacks per round.

03-12-07, 06:00 PM That's right; as it were, Monastic Training has no prerequisites, and the ones for Tashalatora are easily obtained by a Psychic Warrior or an Egoist. Or anyone with Autohypnosis.

The feat says that your chosen psionic class levels stack with your monk levels for said bonuses. There's no stipulation that says you need to have those class features. There's no prerequisite that says you need monk levels for this to work. In my eyes, this works like a monks belt, which in effect adds 5 to your monk level, even if your monk level is 0.

Why would you being trying to multiply your monk level by your other class levels? Stacking is addition and thus your golden.

03-13-07, 12:25 PM I can see both sides of this argument, but if I was DMing I would insist that to have Monk training, there is an implied if not explicit requirement of at least one level of Monk.

but that's what DM's are for!
