Anyone know of any? I want access to the power for obvious reasons, but, as we are playing an Eberron campaign, NPCs capable of manifesting it aren't around. (And while there may be some on Sarlona, they're not likely to be friendly).

Thanks

Yeah, all the "high level ruin everything" NPCs killed each other off in the war.

I don't know of any monsters who have it as a psi-like ability, but the classic psionic monsters (aboleths, illithid, et al) tend to be high-level manifesters. There's also the Daelkyr. These creatures are more than smart enough to be reasoned with, and if you take an oath of service to one then it may use it's psychic chirurgery power to reshape your mind to better serve it's purposes.

There's at least a 14th level seer in Sharn, to my knowledge. Kalashtar, too.

It's not a stretch to imagine stronger ones in Adar, and telepath is probably the most common kalashtar discipline.

There's much more to Sarlona than Riedra.

My thought on seeking out Daelkyr in hopes that they're perform extensive surgery on your psyche: it can't screw you up too much, since there's only so much more insane you can get if you had such an idea in the first place.

I clicked the link, and noticed that "cthulhu" around the 47 second mark, has WINGS.

Was I hallucinating ??
{ ... technically that's not much of a stretch ... }

I'm'n'a call that Daelkyr again ... not sure why.

The problem with Sarlona (aside from not having the book...) is that it takes time to find someone powerful enough to use the power and convince them to use it on you. As I'm playing the Age of Worms campaign, time isn't something we have a lot of.

We do have a very useful artificer, but even with the new even more transparent rules in the magic item compendium, I'm not seeing a way.

As I'm playing a psiforged (although, really, the psiforged body feat is terribly suboptimal), there is the option of getting a power crystal (Magic of Eberron) of chirurgery, but that doesn't help with the learning other powers bit. Using other power crystals with a power crystal of chirurgery would work, but is terribly cost prohibitive.

Although, now that I think about it, would power crystal of chirurgery work to give me a power I gain access to by contacting another creature?

Psychic Chirurgery can give the target knowledge of a power you know.

Now, you might be able to convince the DM that, if you have a power crystal of Chirurgery, you can manifest Chirurgery from the power crystal to implant knowledge of Chirurgery in your own mind. Later, you can pick up other power crystals and do the same thing with those. But that might depend on the exact wording of the power crystal item, which I'm too tired to scrutinize right now.

CrimsonDeath, by "power crystal" do you mean "power stone?"

Ask Boondoggle. He's the one to mention them in the first place. I suspect he's referring to an imbedded Warforged component that bestows knowledge of a particular power. If he's not, then nothing I said above makes sense.

{ ... children's story book voice ... }

I looked in a book by Monte Cook.
Those were wings that I mistook.
I thought those wings were squiggly things.
Lots and lots of squiggly things.
I spent my penny on a book, die 20.
I bought a book and took a look.

This continues on for hours and hours ...

I think I'll check my 1st Edition.
It may confirm my initial suspicion.
I'm suspicious of Cook books.
And squiggly looks that might be wings or squiggly things.
Dieties and Demi-Gods with Cthulhu.
I don't know why I'm gonna do.
Somebody told me it was : Deja Vu.
Somebody told me it was : Deja Vu.
Somebody told me it was the Shining too.
And Jack was typing, through and through.
Somebody told me it was : Deja Vu ...

This continues for hours and hours ...

:coolcthul I didn't know those things were wings, I just thought they were squiggly things.

Someone failed his save against an insanity spell...

Anyway, yes, power stones are embedded components that let you manifest a power imprinted in them once per day (though you can't augment it).

I actually laughed out loud at this one!

I'm not sure what to say about the thread's topic. However, your poem there is inspired - I'm not sure by what, but certainly inspired.

To answer your original question, Gemstone dragons learn powers as though they were psions (in much the same way that Metallic and Chromatic dragons learn spells as though they were sorcerors), and I'm pretty sure that at least one kind of Gemstone dragon learns powers as though they were telepaths. Some of them may have chosen to learn Psychic Chirurgery. Gemstone dragons appear in the Monster Manual 2, which has been updated (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20030718a) to 3.5 rules.

Considering the only way to reliably come in contact with a Gemstone dragon of sufficient age to manifest 9th level powers is via the celestial template and a casting of gate and that doesn't guarantee the thing will even know the power, this suggestion isn't terribly useful.

I think I may just be SOL on this one.

Cthulhu
Move : 18" / 36" ... Cha : (-7)
A pair of folded bat-like wings protrude from between his shoulders.
If the seal is broken and the god released, everyone (and/or everything) in a radius of 100 miles must make a saving throw against death or go insane. This insanity lasts for a number of months equal to the creatures intelligence.
(Rule of) Three things pop to my mind:

One : The drawing of Cthulhu has no wings.
Two : The seal must've been broken and I failed my save.
Three : Someone cast a Persistant Extend*5 Feeblemind on me, hence a month later, the insanity stopped.

In this time frame, I haven't actually come to my senses, rather I've Time Regression'd and Psychic Chirurgery'd my past self to set up a time paradox requiring more Psychic Chirurgeries, and various contingencies, and more disturbing nursery rhyme-eries, and ...
