How substantial is the Pyrokineticists Fire lash? Can it be used for trip and disarm attempts like a regular whip? Does it do normal whip damage in addition to its 1d8 fire damage? If you can use it to trip and disarm, is it still a ranged touch attack?

Or shall I rule that it is an insubstantial toungue of fire that does burnie burnies, and that's it? Will it ignite combustibles? I assume so - no point being a pyromaniac otherwise. How much light does it give off? Standard torch, I suppose.

How does the Weapon Afire ability synergise with the fire lash? Does the lash do an extra 2d6 when the pyrokineticist gets to 4th level? i imagine not, as the 8th level ability specifically fails to mention it.

Does the pyrokineticist get multiple attacks if they use a full-round attack action whith the fire lash?

How substantial is the Pyrokineticists Fire lash? It's not substantial at all.

Can it be used for trip and disarm attempts like a regular whip?Nope, it's not a whip.

Does it do normal whip damage in addition to its 1d8 fire damage?Nope, it's not a whip.

Or shall I rule that it is an insubstantial toungue of fire that does burnie burnies, and that's it?Well anything otherwise would be a house rule.

Will it ignite combustibles? I assume so - no point being a pyromaniac otherwise.Everything else magical/psionic that produces fire does unless otherwise stated, so I would assume yes.

How much light does it give off? Standard torch, I suppose.By the rules? None, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to conclude that it does...

How does the Weapon Afire ability synergise with the fire lash? Does the lash do an extra 2d6 when the pyrokineticist gets to 4th level? i imagine not, as the 8th level ability specifically fails to mention it.That's... A more difficult question, actually... I don't think it does, because Fire Lash isn't a weapon but a weapon-like ability, kinda the same as a ray attack, and I don't think a ray attack would benefit from Weapon Afire...

Does the pyrokineticist get multiple attacks if they use a full-round attack action whith the fire lash?I've always assumed so, but this too is a very valid question...

God, the pyro is really ambiguous on a lot of stuff... :(

You can use any feats you can use with a whip. So I'd say you can trip, disarm, whatever. The FAQ supports this, saying you can use power attack with it

You can use any feats you can use with a whip. So I'd say you can trip, disarm, whatever. It says you can use feats that apply to the use of a standard whip, but tripping, disarming, etc. has nothing to do with a standard whip. You can trip and disarm with a lot of stuff, and Fire Lash isn't on that list, so even if you could gain a +4 bonus to your trip attempts with a fire lash, that's a shame because you can trip with them anyways. It's like taking Skill Focus (Speak Language). You can do it, but it doesn't help.

The FAQ supports this, saying you can use power attack with itIf the FAQ says this, then it's wrong. Power Attack only applies to melee attacks. Fire Lash is a ranged attack.

The WotC FAQ acknowledges it's odd, but the rules say ANY feat you can use with a normal whip are legit. Power Attack is one of those feats. So it's legit.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. It's like wraithstrike all the damn time. But the natural drawbacks of whips (not threatening, drawing aoos, etc.) mitigate it a bit.

Well, at least I am not asking dumb questions with obvious answers.

I have an additional question. If a larger creature uses a fire lash, does the damage increase? And does the range increase on the whip?

That one is a definitive (and unfortunate) NO. Size catagory has no effect on what class abilities you gain (or what those abilities do) unless those abilities specify such.

Of course, that also means the range and damage don't decrease if you're smaller.

Could someone link me the WotC FAQ about the power-attacking Fire Whip?

So would I have to have Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Whip to use it?

No, only to get other feats like Weapon Focus, Improved Critical, and Weapon Specialization.

You are already considered proficient with the Lash once you get the ability to make it.

They really should've put a bit more descriptive text into the ability. As it is a dm could very reasonably require whip prof in order to not get the -4 non-prof penalty and have it deal no damage to certain creatures as per a normal whip.
