Moroii

http://sediment.boboki.com/Gallery/aasimar.JPG

The Moroii are living vampires that feed on the youth and soul of their victims. Moroii in Dirgen are all descendants of Viktor and his bloodline, even if they aren't aware of it. They’re a gruff lot and very suspicious of other races; for good reason, as they’ve been betrayed or waged war upon numerous times by the other races.

Personality:
Moroii are distrustful, and treat every stranger as possible enemy. However, once they’ve given their trust, they’re loyal allies. Moroiis enjoy psionics, especially releasing its power. They also love sculptures or other crafted items (especially well-made lethal weapons). They also admire physical beauty; Moroii are proud of their physique and do not hesitate to show it. This has also led to the custom of slaying all newborns with physical deficiencies. Moroii are always in search of more personal power. Therefore, they do not trust other Moroii. Instead, they strive to weaken or eliminate their rivals to gain a greater advantage. This is not just the case between cities, but also in the politics of the various noble Houses inside a certain city, or even within a House itself. It is this internal strife between the Moroii themselves which keeps the surface races safer than they would be if the Morii were united.

Physical Description:
Moroii are beautiful creatures. Tall, with almost white or silvery hair and bright eyes that make others feel like they see right into the core of their being. Their pale skin and slightly pronounced fangs might hint some vampire heritage. They tend to be lithe, slim, and graceful in their build, movements and appearance. Moroii have effectively unlimited life spans. As long as they are not destroyed or die of hunger. They feed upon the souls and youth of the living to maintain themselves. Moroii do not sleep but require to feed. Moroii generally wear clothes with a dark hue, and they prefer weapons that favor agility and finesse rather than brute strength.

Relations:
Moroii mix with members of other races, especially humans. it is probable that their relations would undergo a shift should their true nature become widely known, so one of the essential tenets of moroii existence is secrecy.

Alignment:
The vast majority of Moroii bend towards evil. However, there are a few neutral or good morii, but these do not survive long in the twisted, cruel society of Dirgen.

Religion: Moroii are less likely to worship a deity than members of other races, since they feel that any grace or continued existence they might hope for depends on their own efforts and the continual mastery of their inborn psionic talents.

Language:
Moroii Speak common.

Names:
Morii names vary greatly, and a moroii's name is often drawn from human or elven names.

Adventures:
Morroi adventurers are akin to humans in their daring ambition. Because many effects that hurt humans leave moroii unscathed, moroii sometimes seem extraordinarily brave to those who don't know their true natures.

MOROII RACIAL TRAITS

-2 Constitution, +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, +4 Charisma.
Medium: As Medium creatures, moroii have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Moroii base land speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision out to 60 feet.
Naturally Psionic: Moroii gain 2 bonus power points at 1st level. This benefit does not grant them the ability to manifest powers unless they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in a psionic class.
+1 racial bonus on saving throws against powers, spells, and spell-like effects. Moroii have an innate resistance to psionics and magic.
Absorb Taint: Once per day a moroii may spend a power point to absorb 2 points of Taint.
Soul Drain: A moroii can suck the youth from a living victim with its fangs by making a successful grapple check. If it pins the foe, it drains its soul, dealing 1 point of Wisdom or Charisma drain each round the pin is maintained. The type of drain the moroii can do must be chosen at character creation and it cannot be change afterwards. On each such successful attack, the moroii gains 1 temporary power point. A moroii cant drain more points of Wisdom or Charisma in a single hour than its Charisma score. Power points gained this way last 1 hour. For each point of Wisdom or Charisma drained, the target ages by one year.
Soul dependency: If a moroii does not use its soul drain special attack against at least one living creature each day, it must make a DC 15 Will save or become fatigued and lose one power point. Each day after the first that the moroii does not feed on a soul directly from a living creature, the DC increases by 1 until it fails the save and becomes fatigued. After that, it must make a DC 20 Will save each week (With the DC increasing by 1 each week thereafter) that does not use its soul drain or become exhausted and reduce his power point reserve by 2 until it successfully uses his soul drain attack against a living creature. The fatigue or exhaustion caused by youth dependency cannot be eliminated by rest (though magic can offset the condition until the moroii fails another save). Using its soul drain ability eliminates a moroii's fatigue immediately, or reduces exhaustion to fatigue.
Youth dependency: After a moroii reaches adulthood. If a moroii does not use its soul drain special attack against at least one living creature every 1d4 days, it must make a DC 20 Fortitude save or become one year older. A moroii that becomes at least 50 years older by youth dependency is automatically destroyed, banishing leaving no trace. Years gained by youth dependency cannot be reverted.
Daylight Enervation: A moroii exposed to daylight for more than 8 hours becomes automatically fatigued until it rests. A moroii exposed to a daylight spell or similar effect becomes fatigued for one round or for the duration of the spell or effect. Moroiis posses vampiric heritages and this reflects one way or an other.
Favored Class: Psion.
Level Adjustment: +3.

Age height and weight like elans.

I based the race on the romanian folklore. i think the race might be a bit weak for a LA of +2. I want to hear what you guys think and what can be done to improve the race as much as possible. This race is for my current homebrew campaign Dirgen and we are using taint

Moroi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A moroi (same form in plural) (sometimes spelled as moroii in modern fiction) is a type of vampire or ghost in Romanian folklore. A female moroi is called a moroaică (pl. moroaice). In some versions, a moroi is a phantom of a dead person which leaves the grave to draw energy from the living.

Moroi are often synonymous with these other figures in Romanian folklore: strigoi (another type of vampire), vārcolac (werewolf or goblin), or pricolici (werewolf).

They are also sometimes referred to in modern myth as the live-born offspring of two strigoi.

In fiction, based on the folklore though with a number of modifications, the name moroi is sometimes spelled as moroii. Fictional treatments in general make a clear and consistent distinction between a strigoi and a moroi (or "moroii"), the former being an undead vampire, the latter a living vampire. However, in Romanian folklore the distinction is not always clear, and a moroi may also refer to a phantom-like figure.

I'm sad to say that this critique is going to be mostly negative.

There are too many "zOMG kewl vampyres" in D&D as-is. I like that you based them on an actual myth (mythological grounding being something D&D has been lacking for a very long time,) but I just don't like the flavor of them.

Also: Ability drain to one score is worth at least a +4 LA on its own, in my opinion. The ability to drain two scores at once is pretty broken. Just as an example, I could make a monk/zerth cenobite with this race and no enemy arcane spellcaster would be safe. Zip up, grapple, drain 'til they're reduced to cantrips, wash, rinse, repeat. Hell, I could even come up with a plausible backstory for him.

My primary issues for the moroii stem from them being presented as a PC race. Present the moroii as primarily a monster and I'm sold. I'd love to whip up that monk as an NPC and take my group's spellcasters down a notch or ten.

I'm agreeing with slander panic, the guy knows what he's talking about, even though we've gotten into what I believe a minor argument lately on one of my threads. It's stronger than +2 LA, but I don't even like it:D

i havent decided if the Morii will drain either charisma or intelligence just yet, i put them both but i wasnt expecting to keep it as it is. About ability drain, we could use the half vampire as a reference, it has blood drain ability and its a +2 LA template, the most important part of the soul drain is that it cannot drain more charisma or int than its charisma score. This may seem very powerful if you are facing one easy to grapple enemy, i always give my players a little extra, it makes them enjoy the game a bit more and it challenges me to be more creative while designing the encounters they will face. I thank you for your critism, should the Moroii do charisma drain or Intelligence drain?

Should the Moroii do charisma drain or Intelligence drain?

I'm thinking you should make it player's choice. They choose at first level to drain one or the other and, once the choice is made, they cannot change it. With that and the limit on points drained per day, I'd say that lowers it to about a +2 LA, maybe +3.

Now that I'm looking this race over again, I find myself liking the flavor a bit more. It's obviously designed for a horror-type campaign and it's very appropriate for that. I also really like that you provided artwork. The rest of us wannabe-designers aren't so talented, I'm afraid.

Thanks for the feedback and yes it is designed for a horror campaign. The artwork belongs to a friend of mine actually my drawing abilities are at his level but he can come out with simple yet surprising artwork, this one in particular was ment for an evil aasimar i believe but he never used it. Thanks once again.

:bump: Changed Int drain for Wis drain, makes more sense on the soul feeding thing. Changed LA to +3. Someone made me see how nasty a player could get if he uses soul drain properly.

The PP that are "lost" due to starvation... When do they come back?

Can moroi feed on summoned creatures? (Eternal Wand of Summon Nature's Ally 1, caster level 3...)

What happens to the Taint that a Moroii absorbs? Does he steal Taint from another creature (taking it upon himself), purge Taint from another creature, or purge Taint from himself?

What's their creature type? Humanoid? Do they have any subtypes (aside from Psionic)?

EDIT: Changed it so that it reduces his pp reserve by 2 until it successfully uses his soul drain ability against a living creature.

Can moroi feed on summoned creatures? (Eternal Wand of Summon Nature's Ally 1, caster level 3...)

Yes, but that would be very disgraceful for a moroii, they are a proud race... but then again.

What happens to the Taint that a Moroii absorbs? Does he steal Taint from another creature (taking it upon himself), purge Taint from another creature, or purge Taint from himself?

He simply absorbs it, meaning that if something would give him say... 3 points of taint he can pay one pp and only take 1... the Moroii simply absorbs part of the taint to his body and neutralizes it.

What's their creature type? Humanoid? Do they have any subtypes (aside from Psionic)?

Yes humanoid, and no, only subtype psionic.
