| Evilclone08-16-07, 06:48 AM | Nothing in the description of the Psionic Body feat prevents a player to take it multiple times and boost up his life points at high values. A player I know is starting as a 2° level human psychic warrior, he has 4 feats. If he takes psionic body 4 times he get 32hp plus hit dice and constitution. What do you think about it? |
| Bacris08-16-07, 07:12 AM | Well, given that you can't take a feat multiple times unless it explicitly says "You can take this feat multiple times," I wouldn't allow it... |
| munin08-16-07, 09:43 AM | You can take it more than once, it just doesn't provide you additional benefits: If a character has the same feat more than once, its benefits do not stack unless indicated otherwise in the description. In general, having a feat twice is the same as having it once. |
| AntiDjinn08-16-07, 11:34 AM | As noted above, the benefits of a given feat only stack with itself when it is specifically noted in the feat description. It is fine to have multiple copies of a feat, but normally you only get the benefit once. In the case of Psionic Body, multiple copies would give you: 1) +2 hit points due to the working copy of the feat you have. It is still a psionic feat, even if its benefit is not functional. Of course, you could spend the same slot on a different psionic feat, gain that benefit, and still get +2 hit points. 2) You have backup copies in case you get hit with Feat Leech. Aside: Psionic Body is not as good all-around as many seem to think it is. It makes you a more durable punching bag without increasing your ability to respond. If you want more hit points use Vigor or just play a fighter; sucking up damage is not the party psion's job. At higher levels the added hit points won't make a difference when upwards of 20d6 of damage are coming your way. They also don't help vs. save or die effects (except Power Words and similar). Consider: A feat slot spent on Psionic Body for a few added hit points vs. the same slot spent on Expanded Knowledge (Astral Construct, Schism, Metamorphosis). Which option makes it more likely you will win a fight? Which helps you to garner more XP? Which grants you options beyond simply sucking up more damage? |
| Lycanthromancer08-16-07, 12:03 PM | It can be very useful in some builds. My psion-based THE BIG GUY IS WITH ME build benefits from this immensely, since my psicrystal is rather fragile (though my buffing can reduce this fragility, every little bit helps). |
| InkBlot08-16-07, 12:04 PM | Aside: Psionic Body is not as good all-around as many seem to think it is. (...) sucking up damage is not the party psion's job. Who said anything about Psions? Psionic Body rocks for a Psychic Warrior. |
| Lycanthromancer08-16-07, 12:17 PM | Definitely right on that count. Psychic warriors get tons of feats, and it's one power (vigor) that you don't have to manifest as often. |
| Knight008-16-07, 12:53 PM | I'm currentyl playing a near epic psion and psionic body is still good for me. I think it would be better for a psychic warrior as they get lots of psionic feats. Psionic Body is also a prereq for psion uncarnate. |
| Evilclone08-16-07, 03:00 PM | Thank you for the info ^_^ The guy who wanted to do this trick isn't very happy :D |
| SlanderPanic08-16-07, 03:14 PM | We're always happy to melt some cheese around here, Evilclone. Also, I agree with InkBlot. Psionic Body is an absolute gem for a psychic warrior. You can never have too many hit points. |
| Bacris08-16-07, 03:17 PM | It's also great for a melee-oriented Ardent :) Although not quite as much of a benefit, but it helps that d6 Hit Dice. |
