| Adamaro2309-15-07, 06:27 PM | I've finally finished picking all my powers and i've found multiple uses for almost every power I can manifest, except for ectoplasmic shambler. I'm playing more of a battlefield control psion, and have many options availiable in combat. I'm trying to figure out all I can do with my powers before I throw my psion into our next game session. So really what i'm asking is: "what are some things you can do with ectoplasmic shambler, other than annoy spellcasters?" |
| Jaid09-15-07, 07:22 PM | it's untyped damage with no SR, is unaffected by DR (it's a spell), and covers a large (shapeable area) and it always hits (also no save). the ideal target is, of course, a large number of hard-to-hit but low-HP opponents which have DR and elemental resistances through the roof. but any one of those qualifiers could make it useful ;) almost forgot, the ideal target would also have crazy saving throws, possibly including stuff like mettle and improved evasion ;) point being, there are very few situations where this spell has no effect on an enemy. it limits visibility like any fog cloud, and makes a decent way to cover a retreat (just drop a large area of this stuff) as well as not disappearing from strong winds (though strong winds can move it). |

You could also erect a wall of ectoplasm or energy wall in a ring around your enemies, then pop the shambler down inside with them. You could also make some sacrificial astral constructs to grapple and pin your foes while the shambler smothers them. |
| Kaleran127709-15-07, 09:23 PM | Hallo! Try this: Step 1) Manifest Ectoplasic shambler Step 2) Manifest either a)False sensory input or b) Cerebral phantasm , either way to fool the enemy into thinking they're dealing with a wraith/spectre or similar undead-it may make them hesitate, waste a Turn/rebuke attempt or even run in fear. Thank you. |
| CrimsonDeath09-15-07, 09:33 PM | It's also good against foes who are balancing or climbing (since damage forces a check to remain in that condition), and against archers who aren't in a position to walk closer to you (up on a wall or in a turret). I once used it on a line of Orc archers standing on a narow ledge; half of them failed their Balance checks and fell off (dying from the fall). |
| Slagger the Chuul09-16-07, 10:28 AM | Ectoplasmic shambler? What's not to like about this power? It's a long-range semi-mobile form of mass concealment that double-disrupts psionics and spellcasting (once for the innate disruption, once for the damage). The shapeable nature of the power makes it suitable for a wide variety of applications. In battle, it can serves as a simple screen, or you can wrap it around a closely-grouped party while you fight off opponents on all sides. It also serves nicely as a room-clearer, since it can kill creatures that don't flee, but doesn't damage objects. You can either fill a room, or spread it out into a snake of deadly ectoplasm to run down corridors ahead of you. There doesn't seem to be anything stopping multiple shamblers from overlapping and you can direct them as a free action, so if you really want to, you can just keep manifesting additional shamblers to increase the damage in an area. |
| carnivore09-16-07, 11:45 AM | for battlefield control ... i love it for all the reasons already stated... also it work well with Metapsionic Feats: Twin Power ...... doubles the effect for only 6 extra PP Extend ........... doubles the duration for only 2 extra PP this power is also one of the few Psionic Powers that Scales with Manifester level without Augmentation(damage, range, duration) :D |
