09-18-07, 10:30 PM I have been looking at two prestige classes that may help the psychic warrior out a bit. The first is the ice psychic in the frost book, the second is the dimand dragon from the races of the dragon. I want peoples opinion on this.

It is OK, you play one if you really like the gem dragon motif, not because it is a powerhouse.

The most of the prereqs are easy: BAB +3, able to manifest 3rd level powers (7 levels of PsW). This should also be enough levels to let you get the 3 ranks of the cross-class skill Knowledge (Arcana) down (no, not typo: The sample character has both Knowledge (Psionics) and Knowledge (Arcana)). So you can start leveling in the PrC at character level 8.

It does balance out your saves; the PrC is strong in the two areas where the PsW is weak.

It has the average BAB progression which hurts when you enter the class and get a +0 (going from PsW 7 to 8 would normally give you a +1 BAB and your first iterative attack). The PrC does not grant bonus feats, and coming from PsW you are really going to miss those.

Many of the specials of the PrC function like powers; you have to pay power points to get them to work. Some are very efficient: Completely blowing off sleep/paralysis effects as an immediate action for 1 point is nice. The claw ability gives a base d6 claw attack for 1 point that lasts 1 minute per ML. It would normally cost 3 points to do that with Claws of the Beast, though that power lasts 1 hour/ML. Other powers, such as the breath weapon are no more impressive than Energy Cone, though they give the PsW more energy type options.

The PrC looses 2 manifester levels. Taking Practiced Manifester will make up for those, and also make certain PrC specials work better since they work off your manifester cap. It also has 3 levels at which it gains no specials.
