| selenar06-01-07, 11:17 AM | Hi, I want to make a psion PrC named Master Psion This is a class for psion who seeks psionic knowledge and comprehension by knowing all psionic powers. I was thinking a making it a 5 level class. here is the prototype Hit Die: d4. Bab: as psion Saves : as psion (bad Fortitude and reflexes saves, good will save) I think of those Requirements Skill: Psicraft 15 ranks and knowledge Psionics 15 ranks Psionics: Having knowledge of one power of each restricted discipline list, with at least two of level 7. But none of those two must came from the primary discipline of the caracter. the Class Skills: Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Knowledge (all skills, taken individually) (Int), Profession (Wis), Psicraft (Int). Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier. the Class Features Weapon and Armor Proficiency: you gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor. Power Points/Day : At every level you gain additional power points per day as if he had also gained a level in whatever manifesting class he belonged to before he added the prestige class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (bonus feats, metapsionic or item creation feats, psicrystal special abilities, and so on). This essentially means that he adds the level of the prestige class to the level of whatever manifesting class the character has, then determines power points per day and manifester level accordingly. If a character had more than one manifesting class before, he must decide to which class he adds the new level of the prestige class for the purpose of determining power points per day and manifester level. Powers Known : When taking this class, you lose the ability to gain new powers the normal way a psion does, even if you take other manifesting classes after this class. See below. lvl1: while psionically focused, if you pay the power points needed for the power stored in a power stone or a dorje while using it normally, you make a psicraft check (DC 15 + power level) to understand the power. If the check is successfull you can keep this power in your memory for 1 min/manifester level and use it as if it was on your repertoire. If you use another power during this period, the stored power vanished. If the check is a failure, you have to wait until you gain 1 rank in psicraft. The stone or dorje must be adressed before trying to understand the power. You can have only one power in memory at a time. If you store another power while one is already stored, the first one vanished and the second is stored. lvl2: same as above but with another willing psion's repertoire. lvl3: same as level 1 but you can store the power for 1h/manifester level lvl4: same as level 2 but you can store the power for 1h/manifester level lvl5: You can use any previous source to store the power. You can also commit it permanently to your repertoire using the following rules: you must remain in meditation for 8 uninterrupted hours. you have to pay an experience points price based on those formulas: 200 * power level if the power is on psion/wilder list. 250 * power level if the power is on psion/wilder discipline list. 350 * power level if the power is on any other list. I think this is an overpowered class, so could you help me to balance it. |
| RobbyPants06-01-07, 12:34 PM | The idea behind this is kind of cool. I don't know that it's brokenly powerful. A question: with the level one ability, if you're using a dorje with a power not on your list (but in a restricted discipline), is the Psicraft check able to let you use it? I think of those Requirements Skill: Psicraft 15 ranks and knowledge Psionics 15 ranks Psionics: Having knowledge of one power of each restricted discipline list, with at least two of level 7. But none of those two must came from the primary discipline of the caracter. With these prereqs, I guess you've barely be able to finish this PrC pre-epic. Having two powers of level 7 out of discipline would require you to take the Expanded Knowledge feat twice while able to manifest 8th level powers. Thus, you would have to take it at 15th level once with your standard feat, and once with your bonus psion feat. Also, this PrC requires you to blow five feats to qualify for it. I guess I'm not sure I'd want to be able to use all the powers enough to do that... although I guess this PrC does overcome one of the psion's biggest weaknesses: small power selection. Intetesting idea :D |
| Ocom06-01-07, 12:52 PM | So the point of the class is to take 5 levels of it and have all known psionic powers. Heh, it's a Psionic Archivist Prc :P So if you get a natural 1 on the psicraft check to "underestand the power" you won't be able to add that specific power or any powers at all? Your answer will be unimportant as this will be easily bypassed with the manifesting of Psychic Reformation  (IMO) The XP cost for permanently adding spells is not that much. Losing 1 hp per the new spell's level is a lot tougher drawback (hint, hint) As for the feats... Access to 3 Restricted powers is enough, and i don't see a real need fot the 7th level requirement. If you really want something like this you could make it a 4/5 manifester level class that gains an additional new spell from any psionic class each level. Add flavour as needed. |
| selenar06-22-07, 03:54 AM | HI, I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier but lots of work to do. So, A question: with the level one ability, if you're using a dorje with a power not on your list (but in a restricted discipline), is the Psicraft check able to let you use it? Yes you can use it but only to store it in your memory. With these prereqs, I guess you've barely be able to finish this PrC pre-epic. Having two powers of level 7 out of discipline would require you to take the Expanded Knowledge feat twice while able to manifest 8th level powers. Thus, you would have to take it at 15th level once with your standard feat, and once with your bonus psion feat. well, yes. I skip this point. So there is now only one level 7 power. Also, this PrC requires you to blow five feats to qualify for it. I guess I'm not sure I'd want to be able to use all the powers enough to do that... although I guess this PrC does overcome one of the psion's biggest weaknesses: small power selection. Intetesting idea :D Yes, I don't want to make a class anybody could take easily. So if you get a natural 1 on the psicraft check to "underestand the power" you won't be able to add that specific power or any powers at all? No. The XP cost for permanently adding spells is not that much. Losing 1 hp per the new spell's level is a lot tougher drawback (hint, hint) Yes, that's true. But you lose the ability to normally gain new powers at each level, isn't it a big enough drawback? As for the feats... Access to 3 Restricted powers is enough, and i don't see a real need fot the 7th level requirement. So at whitch level do you think a caracter can take this class? |
