| Orchomenos06-07-07, 02:09 PM | I'll be starting a campaign at level 10 soon, and decided to play a psion. My DM put a strange limitation on Metamorphosis: I can only use 10HD (my manifester level) worth of monsters. For example: I could masterize the Cloaker (6 HD), the Pixie (1 HD) and Choker (3 HD). Any suggestion? SRD only. |
| Lycanthromancer06-07-07, 02:27 PM | Any particular role you want to fill? Also, what's your race? An undead, outsider, or construct can metamorphosis into an undead, outsider, or construct. Thus, getting a clay golem can be really nice if you're a warforged. As a sidenote, your psicrystal can turn into a clay golem regardless. Also, check out ropers, hydras, phthisics, and cloakers. Are you getting Metamorphic Transfer? Find a beholder ASAP. Oh, and definitely get animated objects, if only for your psicrystal. Note that metamorphosis has no restrictions on turning into them. Absolutely awesome for both utility and sneakiness. |

Dude, 10HD, :) Worse, 10HD of total known forms.. Harsh. Incidentally, would you not gain the Berserk Special Attack from Clay Golem? Major uncool... |
| Lycanthromancer06-07-07, 02:47 PM | What? Um...that sucks. Royally. Play something else, instead. The only way to make that really work for you is to go for a stealth/infiltrator build. Get some 1 HD animals and animated objects, then sneak. |

Any suggestion? SRD only. Pixie is fantastic if you have Metamorphic transfer. Cloaker is great too but it's 6 of your 10 HD. Wyrmling White Dragon is great at only 3HD. Brilliant movement modes, take Improved flight and your up to 150' (Good) which is fantastic in combat. Do you want one big butt-kicker and one or two utility forms or a bunch of utility forms to enhance your manifesting? |
| carnivore06-07-07, 04:37 PM | for 10HD total...try this....since this assumes you have Metamorphic Transfer: Pixie(1HD) ........ as you know and crizhII said...excellent choice combat forms........ here are some good ones: Cloaker (7HD) ....Large, Fly 40, NA +7, Str 21, Dex 16, Con 17; MM/SRD Attack: Tail slap +8 melee (1d6+5) and bite +3 melee (1d4+2) Benefits: Engulf (ex), Moan (ex): Unnerve, Fear, Nausea or Stupor (must read!) Take down a T-Rex in a single bite! special ability forms...... for metamorphic transfer Choker(3HD)......... (Aberration) {pp. 34} - quickness (extra standard or move action each round) ...... as you already know... :D Blink Dog(4HD)....... (Magical Beast) [4 HD] {pp. 28} - Blink (free) at will, Dimension Door (free) self only at will Doppelganger(4HD)..... (Monstrous Humanoid) {pp. 67} - Detect thoughts at will Ethereal Filcher(5HD)... Combat, Movement, continuous Magic Circle vs Evil Pixie ........................ Greater Invisibility, movement, Stealth PsuedoDragon ........... 60' Telepathy, Movement note: all of these can Fly ....... this is very useful in most circumstances :D |
| crizhII06-07-07, 05:17 PM | Phthsic, ick thats nasty... I've just been looking for good base creatures for an Effigy Master, Phthsic rocks for adding the Effigy Template to... Evil.:D |
| crizhII06-07-07, 05:21 PM | It might be worth considering that your uses of Metamorphic transfer will be extremely limited so at least one form that gives you some benefit without it should be considered as a fallback. White Dragon is great for quick escapes although it is 3HD, I'm going to see if I can find something with lower hit dice that might be as good. (fat chance of finding a higher fly speed by the way, nothing, NOTHING, beats dragons for flat out top speed....) |
| crizhII06-07-07, 05:25 PM | Ooooohhhh... I just remembered Puppeteer, EPH 209. Enthrall (Ex). Anything you are touching that you have previously Psionic Charmed is treated as Dominated for as long as you are in contact with it...... Just to place a huge, fat, evil cherry on top of that they never get another save regardless of what you tell them to do... Pure sick dude... |
| crizhII06-07-07, 06:17 PM | Violet Fungus: 2HD, Poison, Immunity to Mind Affecting, poison, crits, stunning, paralysis, sleep... Merfolk: 1HD, Aquatic, swim 50'. Grey Ooze: 3HD, Blindsight, Acid, Immunity to poison, sleep, polymorph (lol), stunning (!), paralysis, criticals (!), flanking Spider Eater: 4HD (ouch), Poison, DC17 Paralysis 1D8+5 WEEKS (!!!!!!), Implant Stirge: 1HD, Bwahahahahahahahaha.... (Or Larval Flayer if CPsi is allowed, I know you said SRD only) Bat Swarm(?): 3HD, ick, wounding, Swarm Traits, sick.. Dog: 1HD, free Track feat. Eagle: 1HD, 80' fly, Weapon Finesse (see errata) There are some Vermin that are OK but no great shakes... |
| Tyroki06-07-07, 06:25 PM | Look on the bright side. At least you can become as many items as you want ^^ Yer still a toolkit. Now, go turn yourself into two whips for that two handed user to use so he can do a spidey around the jungle xD |
| Orchomenos06-08-07, 10:59 AM | I will be an Elan. The other party members will be a Druid (Summoner/Healer/Wildshaper), Fighter tripper build (I suggested him a few tattoo of Expansion), and perhaps a Sorcerer. So between the (Expanded) Fighter, the Druid and his summonings, I don't think I will need to be a Behemoth to kick a$$ in melee. I was thinking: Pixie (1HD): +8 DEX, Invisibility White Wyrmling (3HD): High Speed, Burrow/Swim/Fly Phthsic (6HD): Melee combat + Mind Feed + Many Psy-like abilities for Metamorphic Transfer I have a question though: Metamorphic Transfer would give me access to the White Wyrmling breath weapon. Would you consider it a continuous effect, every 1d4 rounds (consuming only 1 charge in total), or a one-time effect each time I breath (consuming 1 charge each time)? Not that 1d6 cold damage, DC12, is that dreadful at level 10, but it could be handy... |

| Orchomenos06-08-07, 11:24 AM | Ok then. I will keep it for Greater Invisibility and the Phthsic psy-like abilities. |
| carnivore06-08-07, 12:13 PM | unfortunately ........ Metamorphic transfer .......only give a single (SU) Ability.. not Spell-like Ability or Psi-like Ability if you choose PHTHISIC.... you only get this: Phthsic(6 HD) large monstrous humanoid Speed: 30 ft. (6 squares) Natural Armor+8 Str 23 Dex 12 Con 21 2 claws + bite Mind Feed:Note: the Mind Feed (Ex) ability adds 1d4 Int damage to the bite attack also a 3HD White Dragon... only gives nice Movement abilities: Speed:60 ft., burrow 30 ft., fly 150 ft. (average),swim 60 ft. but lousy attributes: Size: Tiny Str 11 Dex 10 Con 13 Natural Armor +2 except for movement....psuedoDragon has this beat: PSEUDODRAGON Tiny Dragon Speed: 15 ft. (3 squares), fly 60 ft. (good) Armor Class: 18 (+2 size, +2 Dex, +4 natural), touch 14, flat-footed 16 Attack: Sting +4 melee (1d3–2 plus poison) Full Attack: Sting +4 melee (1d3–2 plus poison) and bite –1 melee (1) Space/Reach: 2-1/2 ft./0 ft. (5 ft. with tail) Abilities: Str 6 Dex 15 Con 13 Feats: Alertness, Weapon Finesse A pseudodragon has a body about 1 foot long, with a 2-foot tail. It weights about 7 pounds. A pseudodragon can communicate telepathically and can also vocalize animal noises. COMBAT A pseudodragon can deliver a vicious bite, but its principal weapon is its sting-equipped tail. Poison (Ex): Injury, Fortitude DC 14, initial damage sleep for 1 minute, secondary damage sleep for 1d3 hours. The save DC is Constitution-based and includes a +2 racial bonus. Telepathy (Su): Pseudodragons can communicate telepathically with creatures that speak Common or Sylvan, provided they are within 60 feet. Skills: Pseudodragons have a chameleonlike ability that grants them a +4 racial bonus on Hide checks. *In forests or overgrown areas, this bonus improves to +8. i still say...your best , most versatile , most capable combo with these restrictions: Lammasu .................. Combat, Movement, continuous Magic Circle vs Evil Pixie ........................ Greater Invisibility, movement, Stealth PsuedoDragon ........... 60' Telepathy, Movement all have useful abilities that are great for Metamorphic transfer :D |
| Scion of Coldshard06-08-07, 01:03 PM | A few useful ones, even if they have been mentioned before ;) Rust monster: 5 hd, Rust (ex) Mimic: 7 hd, adhesive (ex), crush (ex), mimic shape (ex), ok in combat Manticore: 6 hd, spikes (ex), bonus track feat, pretty decent in combat, flight 50' (clumsy) Griffon: 7 hd, Pounce (ex), rake (ex), pretty decent in combat, flight 80' (average) Dire weasel: 3 hd, attatch (ex), blood drain (ex), bonus weapon finesse, and did I mention that blood drain is d4 con damage a round? Manifest grip of iron, inertial armor, and empathic feedback and basically anything that is subject to con drain is dead in a few rounds. If allowed there are a few really tough dinosaurs. Cloaker: 6 hd, moan (ex), engulf (ex), shadow shift (su) Behir: 9 hd, breat weapon (su), constrict (ex), improved grab (ex), rake (ex), swallow whole (ex) Assassin vine: 4 hd, constrict (ex), entangle (su), improved grab (ex), plant type. Its entangle ability has a duration of 'until you die or decide to end it'. That means that so long as you dont die you could surround and place with tons and tons of essentially permanent entangles. Ankheg: 3 hd, improved grab (ex), spit acid (ex) Aboleth: 8 hd, enslave (su), slime (ex). both of those abilities are tough. Hippogriff: 3 hd, fly 100 (average) Stirge: 1 hd, attatch (ex), blood drain (ex), bonus weapon finesse Spider Swarm: 2 hd, distraction (ex), poison (ex), vermin type, swarm traits Lots of fun options ;) |
