| AdventChild06-13-07, 03:35 AM | Suggestions and constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated. Note: The powers have not been balanced yet and all powers are based on MTG cards. Dream Leash, Psionic Telepathy (Charm) [Mind-Affecting] Level: Telepath 3 Display: Mental Manifesting Time: 1 standard action Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) Target: One humanoid Duration: 1 hour/level Saving Throw: Will negates Power Resistance: Yes Power Points: 5 The tendrils of the mind find easy purchase on the soft underbelly of dreams. This power functions as the charm person spell, except as noted here. The target must be sleeping and the targeted creature recieves a -4 penalty to its saving throw. Once the creature awakens it acts as affected by a charm spell for the remeaning duration of the power. Augment You can augment this power in one or more of the following ways. 1. If you spend 2 additional power points, this power can also affect an animal, fey, giant, magical beast, or monstrous humanoid. 2. If you spend 4 additional power points, this power can also affect an aberration, dragon, elemental, or outsider in addition to the creature types mentioned above. 3. If you spend 4 additional power points, this power’s duration increases to one day per level. In addition, for every 2 additional power points you spend to achieve any of these effects, this power’s save DC increases by 1. Glimpse the Unthinkable, Psionic Telepathy (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting] Level: Telepath 9 Display: Mental Manifesting Time: 1 round Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) Target: One creature Duration: Permanent Saving Throw: None Power Resistance: yes Guild: Dimir Power Points: 17 As the Glimpse the Unthinkable spell, except as noted here. Glimpse the Unthinkable Enchantment (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting] Level: Sor/Wiz 9 Components: V Casting Time: 1 round See text Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) Target: One living creature Duration: instantaneous Saving Throw: Will Negates Guild: Dimir Spell Resistance: yes "I am confident that if anyone actually penetrates our facades, even the most perceptive would still be fundamentally unprepared for the truth of House Dimir." —Szadek You reach into the subject’s mind and modify its memories in one of the following ways. * Eliminate all memory of an event the subject actually experienced that you are aware of. This spell cannot negate charm, geas/quest, suggestion, or similar spells. * Change the details of an event the subject actually experienced. Casting the spell takes 1 round. You proceed with the spell by spending 1 round visualizing the memory you wish to modify in the subject. If your concentration is disturbed before the visualization is complete, or if the subject is ever beyond the spell’s range during this time, the spell is lost. A modified memory does not necessarily affect the subject’s actions, particularly if it contradicts the creature’s natural inclinations. An illogical modified memory is dismissed by the creature as a bad dream or a memory muddied by too much wine. Furthermore the target recieves a -10 penalty to all intelligence based skill checks for 1 minute per caster level. Peel from Reality Psychoportation Level: Nomad 6 Display: Auditory and visual Manifesting Time: 1 swift action Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) Target: You and one creature. Duration: Up to 1 round/level; see text Saving Throw: Will negates Power Resistance: Yes Guild: Dimir Power Points: 11 When House Dimir's secrets are in danger of exposure, the guild takes drastic measures to cover its tracks. This power allows you to shunt yourself and one creature out of the time stream for a short period. you can affect any creature within this power's range. You and the creature are then shunted out of time unless it succeeds on a Will saving throw (If successful only you are peeled from reality). Time passes for creatures other than the affected creatures, and it can take no actions. You and the creature seem to vanish, while out of the time stream no other creature, power, spell, magical effect, or force can affect it in any way. (It is as though you and the creature have ceased to exist.) When the power ends both creatures return. Shadow of Doubt Telepathy [Mind-Affecting] Level: Psion/wilder 2, Psychic Warrior 3 Display: Auditory, mental, and visual Manifesting Time: 1 swift action Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) Area: 60-ft.-radius spread Target: all in area Duration: 1 round Saving Throw: None Power Resistance: none Guild: Dimir Power Points: 4 Your ignorance is my bliss. - Szadek You fog the mind of every creature around you (including you). Creatures around you cannot cast spells or manifest powers, use spell like or power like abilities, or use super natural abilities for one round. Power, spells or abilities that trigger without a creatures activation or that are in effect (such as an elocator's scorn earth ability) still function normally. Augment You can manifest this power in one or both of the following ways. * for every 1 power point you spend, this power's range increases by 5ft. * For every 2 additional power points you spend, this power's area spreads by 10ft In addition for 4 power points, You are not affected by this power when you manifest it. Wit's End, Psionic Telepathy [Mind-Affecting] Level: Psion/wilder 8 Display: Visual and Mental Manifesting Time: 1 standard action Range: Medium (100 ft. +10 ft./level) Target: One creature Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: Will negates Power Resistance: Yes Guild: Dimir Power Points: 15 "Some images are so powerful that one glance burns them into your mind forever. Come, let us gaze on nothingness." -Szadek You reduce the target’s mental faculties. The target recieves a +4 bonus to its will saving throw when attempting to resist this power. If the target fails its saving throw, target’s Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma score is reduced to 1. The ability score which will be reduced must be chosen each time the power is manifested. The subject heals points from the ability score damage done by the power at a rate of 1 per round. This power’s effect may make it impossible for the target to manifest some or all of its powers, if the requisite ability score drops below the minimum required to manifest powers of that level. |
| Drinky_the_Hobo06-13-07, 04:10 AM | Just a typo in the Glimpse the Unthinkable, Psionic. Should be 17pp not 9. Dream Leash should also be 5pp From a first glance these powers all look pretty good. There are a few things I would change however. Shadow of Doubt shouldn't be available before Null Psionics Field/Antimagic Field. It is by the look of it a better version of this power. The augments looks good for it though and the significantly shorter duration is enough of an offset for the increased spread. I may have overlooked something when reading through Glimpse the Unthinkable but for mechanical reasons alone I cant figure why you have it placed as 9th level power. This one is mechanically very similar to the Bard's Modify Memory (or better yet the telepath power of the same name). Perhaps rather then making a new power altogether add this one on as an augment to Modify Memory. Wit's End needs some clarification, you have written Will half, but haven't gone into further detail. Also i would move this place this as a 5th level power, given the similarity to Feeblemind. This version is more forgiving then that, being that the ability scores recovers so rapidly and the target gets a bonus on its Will save. This in contrast to the almost permanent nature of Feeblemind and the penalty on saving throws. Good work with the new powers, hope i was of some help |

This one is mechanically very similar to the Bard's Modify Memory (or better yet the telepath power of the same name). Perhaps rather then making a new power altogether add this one on as an augment to Modify Memory. Modify memory only lets you modify 5 minutes, glimpse lets you modify any memory that you are aware of, while this may not sound useful it is, specially when you know the target and/or the target knows you, for example (just to give one) think of an npc hunting you down or vise versa for some reason (lets say you/him killed his/your brother) You/him can simply modify that fact out of his/your mind and that might prevent alot of trouble, furthermore it gives a -10 penalty to all intelligence based skill checks for 1 minute per manifester level. Wit's End needs some clarification, you have written Will half, but haven't gone into further detail. Also i would move this place this as a 5th level power, given the similarity to Feeblemind. Good work with the new powers, hope i was of some help While it is more forgiving as you say but this power is great against any caster or manifester, a wizard/sorcerer, cleric, druid, bard, psion, psychic warrior will cry for their mothers if you reduce their main stat to 1 even if they heal at a rate of 1 per round it will take them around 10 rounds to get a decent score... and most battles are over before 1 minute. Its even good against a monk and even better to dominate creatures. |
| Drinky_the_Hobo06-13-07, 05:02 AM | I can see where your coming from with the Glimpse the Unthinkable, even with a permanent duration though I don't think it warrants the expenditure of 17 power points. That's why I suggest making it an augment to Modify Memory, for an an additional 4 power points you can increase the duration to permanent and impose the negative 10 penalty to all intelligence based skill checks for 1 minute per manifester level. (making it an equivalent 6th power). My mistake on Wit's End, i overlooked that you allowed this to reduce the targets Wisdom score to 1 aswell, that makes it significantly more powerful then Feeblemind. But given that you have decided to place it as an 8th level power, removing the subjects bonus to the saving throw against it wouldn't be out of line, or perhaps extend the duration of the effect. |
| AdventChild06-13-07, 11:33 PM | Thanks i will take everything in consideration. |
| Tiarn06-14-07, 02:07 AM | This is slightly off-topic, but how much of this Ravnica homebrew campaign do you have written up? And do you have a place where we can see it? I would be very interested in something like this. :D Now, on-topic replies: I believe dream-leash is too high level. It is basically the same as the charm, psionic power except that it only works on sleeping creatures and they suffer a penalty to the save. But it's two levels higher? That doesn't make any sense. To me the penalty to the save is balanced by the fact that the target must be asleep, but even if it weren't I don't believe it's powerful enough to warrant an increase of two levels! I'm not sure Glimpse the Unthinkable catches the flavor of the card. It seems like it should be more psychologically damaging, not just remove memories. Peel from Reality seems well-balanced. It is a swift action and has a slight drawback (that might be situationally beneficial) Shadow of a Doubt I feel has the same problem as Glimpse above. You can't search libraries and that translates to cannot cast spells in D&D? That sounds more like Abeyance to me. Wit's end is more flavorfully sound, but the mechanics seem a bit off, and it's probably too high level. At 8th level if someone is going to fail a Will save vs. my power (especially since they get a +4 bonus) I'd much rather it be to Recall Death than this power. Plus Recall death deals damage if they make their save. So it's really win-win. I don't mean to sound so negative, but you wanted critiquing or you wouldn't have placed them on the message board. Hope mine helps. :) I think the idea here has great potential, though, keep it up! |

| AdventChild06-14-07, 03:20 AM | Also came up with a new power, though the orzhov are not psionics i think this card is better represented by a psionic power than a cleric divine spell. Pillory of the Sleepless Telepathy (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting] Level: Psion 2 Display: Mental Manifesting Time: 1 standard action Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) Target: One living creature Duration: 1 day Saving Throw: Will negates Power Resistance: Yes Guild: Orzhov Power Points: 3 Which is worse - the sleep which never ends or that which never comes? Target creature cannot sleep or rest for 24 hours. Every 24 hours the creature must make an additional will saving throw or become fatigued, if already fatigued it becomes exhausted. Augment You can manifest this power in one or both of the following ways. * For every 4 additional power points you spend, the duration of this power increases by one more day. * For every 2 additional power points you spend, this power’s save DC increases by 1. |
| Carwyn_Nhung06-19-07, 02:04 PM | Here's my version of shadow of doubt: Shadow of Doubt Telepathy [Mind-Affecting] Level: Psion/wilder 2, Psychic Warrior 3 Display: Auditory, mental, and visual Manifesting Time: 1 swift action Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) Area: 60-ft.-radius spread Target: all in area Duration: 1 round Saving Throw: Will Neg Power Resistance: none Guild: Dimir Power Points: 4 Your ignorance is my bliss. - Szadek Everything becomes misty and indestinct, as truth becomes untrustworthy. Within the area of effect, all knowledge skills and divinations require a will save. In addition, checks and spells made elsewhere about objects in the local area require the same save. Augment You can manifest this power in one or both of the following ways. * For every 2 additional power points you spend, this power's area spreads by 10ft * For every 2 additional power points you spend, this power's DC increases by 1. In addition for 4 power points, You are not affected by this power when you manifest it. I think glimpse the unthinkable would be very similar to one of Rich Burlews spells (http://www.giantitp.com/articles/STcFi6l45eoAbaxiYPn.html), as the concept is revealing a secret that blows their brain. To suit the card better I'd say that instead of a will save they have the alternative of taking d6 int damage to stop the effect, as their brain destroys itself rather than hear the secret, but that's probably too powerful. I think your peel from reality is a really interesting application of the unsummon effect, although I think it might be better as an immediate action, to better suit it's defensive nature. A good versatile power, that I can imagine using. |

I like your version of shadow of doubt however it might be pretty useless in combat but i will work around based on yours... about glimpse... i saw the spell by burlews however it does not capture the mechanics of the card... discarding and putting cards from your library to your graveyard represents loss of knowledge... i still dont know how to represent that in dnd... The dimir specialize in control of knowledge and in keeping secrets. |
