Unless you're hanging out in Sarlona a lot, you're probably better off with the regular Artificer. UPD is a lot less useful in a typical game than UMD, simply because you find a lot less psionic stuff.

No, take Psicrystal Affinity and Improved Psicrystal as often as you can. Then have it take Leadership for a psionic cohort. Get a Thrallherd with Undead Leadership.

10-03-07, 05:13 PM It depends on a few things. Does your DM like psionics? Does your game use the Magic Item Compendium. Does your DM realize that psionic talent is equally common (if perhaps less developed) in Khorvaire as in Sarlona?

If you answered yes to all of the above, then you can play a Psionic Artificier and not suck.

Magic Item Compendium clarifies a passage from the XPH; you can use psionic item creation feats to substitute for the equivilant magic item creation feat, you just need to come up with equivilant prerequisites. So Craft Psionic Construct can be used to make more than just Psion Killers, and Craft Universal Item can make Pearls Of Power. RAW.

edit: Unless you meant the cohort should take Psicrystal Affinity.

I believe the Thrallherd cohort is the one taking Psicrystal Affinity.
