| GreyWanderer08-05-07, 02:27 PM | Gang: My DM is starting a High-Level campaign (we are all rolling up 21st level characters). He is allowing us all to start with the (specific) gear listed for NPC's in the DMG; However, they don't list Psionicists. As I want to run a Soulknife (I know its underpowered, and may not survive, but I'm curious - in fact Feat suggestions are welcome) is there a list of typical Soulkife (or any Psionic class) gear somewhere? My DM wants a specific list, not just the gold piece value. Grey http://www.ukg-publishing.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=118 |
| Tempest Stormwind08-05-07, 02:41 PM | No, no such gear has been published. That said, 21st level, soulknife, NPC gear instead of PC wealth? You're hosed. Hell, your whole group is, unless the opponents are dramatically weaker than they should be. |
| Tealgorthian08-05-07, 02:48 PM | NPC level gear? BWAHAHA. Take improved trip. So you can trip the low physical stat guy when you are running away. Remember, you don't have to outrun the monster, just the guy with a base 20ft speed. |
| InkBlot08-05-07, 05:04 PM | If it's truly a low magic game, then a soulknife might have an advantage. If it's a players-can't-have-shinies-but-NPCs-can game, then you're hosed. And I'm sorry, but I haven't seen soulknife NPC gear either. I suggest taking the NPC gear from one of the other classes, perhaps the Monk or Ranger, and replacing any magic weapons they get with something else. |

Grey http://www.ukg-publishing.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=118 Just use the listed equipment for a monk, their underlying concepts are similar. In the same way, I would use the wizard's gear for a psion, and the sorcerer's for a wilder. Psychic warriors are a little iffy, as there are many different ways to build an effective psychic warrior, but you could use the monk, fighter, cleric, or ranger equipment depending on how you're set up. Also, if you're playing a soulknife, ask your DM if you can use the official Mind's Eye options (they're really much-needed fixes) presented here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20070214a |
| CrimsonDeath08-06-07, 02:49 AM | I think the Bard's gear might be closer to what the Wilder would need, since they both get light armor proficiency. |
| Tealgorthian08-06-07, 11:54 AM | There's a table in the DMG that says how much money an NPC of each level should get. I don't have my DMG here, but give it to your DM and see what he says. I still say you are hosed. |
| Lazigothi08-06-07, 03:47 PM | From the requirement proposed by your DM, I first thought it sounded like one of those impossible quests the petitioned never expects to be solved: like when a woman who doesn't want that smelly/ ugly man from claiming her for a bride she demands a challenge that he must first "bring her the moon." Since there's no such list, then bye-bye psionics from this DM's game. Assuming this DM is serious, I hope the pain is brief. I think restricting items to a by-the-letter list of NPC items in the DMG comes across as very bland and anti-climactic. There's no character. You got the weapon and the armor. Ho hum. If everyone has the equivalent, it feels like everyone came out of a cracker jack box. I think all of the players will have a great challenge ahead of them to avoid disconnection with their items. |
| GreyWanderer08-08-07, 12:48 AM | You were right - he decided that Psionics were a no-go. He is out of control, but we will give him what he wants; my theory is that if you give someone what they want, they usually regret it. Thanks for all the advice - many good points made (I especially like the Trip thing). | DrStalker08-08-07, 08:56 AM | There is a gear list for NPC psionic classes in the 3.0 psionics handbook, but only for psion and psychic warrior (soulknife was a really poor PrC back then) Just take Vow of Poverty, it will be far more powerful than NPC-level gear. :-) |

The next target he struck would then automatically be affected by the power, and -- the big one -- didn't get a saving throw. There were other goodies the class got, but that was the big one. |

The Soulbow had gear values you can use for up to that level. Subtract that from the NPC value of money and add whatever you feel like. |
