bartmossuk 02-23-07, 11:53 AM	Im playing a Seer in a campaign at the moment (first time we have used Psionics) and manifested Object Reading on a magic item we got from a fight with a group of hired assassins. We got a bit stuck on the line about casual owners of the item will not register. The person who used the device against us would show up, as he actively used it in combat against us. However, we could not agree on wether someone giving him the item expressly for that purpose would register, as all he did was hand the item over, not actually use it himself. What do you gurus of all things Psionic think? Cheers! Simon
AntiDjinn 02-23-07, 02:05 PM	"Casual" is left purposefully undefined in game terms so DMs have some wiggle room with this power. If someone simply picks up a dropped item and hands it back to its owner then they won't register. If someone steals an item, uses it for a while, then replaces it without the owner knowing, then they probably will register. If someone brokers the purchase of an item, technically becoming the owner for a time, but never actually handles it, then they probably won't register. It should all come down to: Physical contact, length of contact, and emotional investment or intent toward the item. Psionic assassins who want to foil Object Reading will generally use Bolt, Minor Creation, or Call Weaponry to make a weapon that won't hang around long enough for your CSI PC to get a reading off it.
