| Zodiaq703-14-07, 03:18 PM | This is a psionic PrC based on my favorite psioninc item, the psychoactive skin. Plasmo-Dermist: Prerequisites:Must have a power point reserve, have the Craft Universal Item feat, know 1 power from the Psychmetabolim discipline list of 2nd level or higher & Metacreativity discipline list of 3rd level or higher, Craft(Any) 4 ranks, Knowledge(Psionics) 8 ranks, Use Psionic Device 4 ranks, and must have created at least one psychoactive skin. Class Skills:Autohypnosis(wis), Bluff(cha), Concentration(con), Craft(int), Disguise(cha), Heal(wis), Knowledge(psionics), Profession(wis), Psicraft(int), Use Psionic Device(cha). 2+Int Mod/ level Hit Dice:d6 BaB:As Rogue Good Save:Will Level Base Attack: Fort Ref Will Special 1st +0 +0 +0 +2 +1 Manifester Level, Enhance Skin(+1), Disguise Skin 2nd +1 +0 +0 +3 Skin Limit(+1), Skin Admixture(2), Create Skin(75%) 3rd +2 +1 +1 +3 +1 Manifester Level, Enhance Skin(+2), Fast Change(Move Action) 4th +3 +1 +1 +4 Skin Limit(+2), Skim Admixture(3), Create Skin(50%) 5th +4 +2 +2 +5 +1 Manifester Level, Enhance Skin(+3), Fast Change(Immediate Action) Enhance Skin(Su):The plasmo-dermist can, as a Soulknife with their mindbalde, add an armor bonus or special ability to the topmost skin they are wearing. This enhancement lasts for one day and is not lost if the enhanced skin is placed at a lower layer, but the benefit is unusable until the enhanced skin comes to the top again. Even the skin admixture class feature cannot overcome this. Special abilities are drawn from armor special abilities. Disguise Skin(Ex):The Plasmo-Dermist can alter the look of his skins to resemble normal clothes. He can also use it to gain a +2 competence bonus to all disguise checks. Skin Limit:The Plasmo-Dermist can wear more psychoactive skins than normal. A plasmoderm can wear a total of 5 skins at 4th level. Skin Admixture(Su):The Plasmo-Dermist can use the benefits of more than one skin that they are wearing. A plasmoderm can benefit from the three topmost skins at 4th level Create Skin:Plasmo-Dermists can create skins at a lower cost than normal. At 2nd Level, they reduce the cost to 75%, and at 4th Level they reduce the cost to 50% for both gold & XP. Fast Change(Ex):A Plasmo-Dermist can deploy or switch between skins faster thatn normal. At 3rd level, they can switch skins as a move action instead of a standard action. At 5th level, the speed increases to an immediate action. This means that a 5th level Plasmo-Dermist can change skins in response to a spell or attack. I know it's a bit rough, but let me know what you think. I'll try to update as often as I can and try to get this baby to 10 levels. |
| Kiklio03-14-07, 09:13 PM | Firstly, my thoughts when I read the title were, "Please let this class turn a character's skin into plasma". Unfortunately, this is not so. Secondly, you're probably good as is. There are some typos as to when the class receives each upgrade of the ability, but the abilities look good and interesting. It should definitely stay within the 3-6 level range, as a character is not basing his entire life story off of some psionic items. You need to specify if, when you change a skin, if you lose the armor bonus from Enhance Skin for the whole day or until that skin tops out again. I believe you should regain it when you put it on top. One thing that bothered me about psychoactive skins is that you always have this weird multi-color look over your whole body. Giving the class an option to retool the look of their skins would be good. A cost reduction for skin crafting may also be warranted, but should replace an existing ability. To format, place all of your Level, Bab, Fort, Ref, Will, and Special into Notepad. Copy and Paste to here. Put Code tags around it. This makes it into a table. Finally, you may want to add two-three levels of ML or mindblade progression in here so manifesters don't take as big a hit from this class. Edit: You have a % in for the maximum number of skins worn. Also, the last upgrade of Fast Skin should be a swift or immediate action, the standard not-your-turn action since XPH. |
| Zodiaq703-14-07, 10:27 PM | Thank you for the feedback. I hope I fixed all of the typos. The Disguise Skin ability actually covers the whole rimed in psychadelic jello thing. It states that it allows the skins to appear as normal clothes. I re-worded the Enhance Skin ability just a might. Hopefully it is a bit clearer. |
| Zodiaq703-16-07, 11:36 AM | :bump: Any more feedback? |
| vahju03-17-07, 11:48 AM | What about allowing Skin Admixture to work with all skins worn (max five). Also have this ability start out at first level gaining use of an extra skin with each level of the prestige class. Also should give this PrC a reduction in the cose of creating skins since they are so focused in on particular set of items (think that was mentioned earlier). |
| Zodiaq703-17-07, 01:47 PM | I thought about that. Think of a Plasmodermist with a Skin of the Hero, Skin of the Troll, AND a Skin of Proteus on. The plasmodermist then enhances the skin of the hero with a +3 armor bonus or an equvalent enhancement. That's a not quite on par with a Druid in power, but it's nothing to sneeze at. Anyway, any character can wear three skins and benefit from one. I'm doubling that ability with this class. I'll also be posting some more skins here soon. |
| vahju03-18-07, 12:56 PM | Another suggestion would be is to make the "Disguise Skin" ability similar to the Glamered Armor Enhancement in the players handbook. The the disguise bonus really doesn't make sense since your just making it look like normal clothes. The glamered armor enhanchment does not give any bonus at all but mimics what you want for this ability. |
| Zodiaq703-18-07, 02:14 PM | The Disguise Skin abilty does what the Glamered Armor enhancement does, I addition, it gives a bonus to Diguise rolls as the skin normally covers the face and head also. So the Plasmoderm can make disugises with any skin worn w/out wasting any of the ehnacement bonus gained from that class feature. I know it's a bit powerful, but a member of this PrC is a master of using psychoactive skins. I do appreciate the feedback. Is there a way for me to better phrase the abiliteis to make them better understood? |
| MaverickWolf03-20-07, 01:19 PM | I'm looking at this and can't help but think that the Psicraft requirement and power level requirement should be lowered. It just seems a Psychic Warrior class to me (as I see them using Psychoactive Skins far more effectively than Psions, considering many Psychic Warrior powers already focus on buffing oneself), and Psychic Warriors don't get Psicraft, and don't gain 3rd level powers until 7th level. Then, part of me says just ditch the psicraft and make a requirement of a +3 BAB, so as to push it off for Psions, and make it more accessible to Psychic Warriors, but that's just me. I'll probably come back later with better wording. |
| Zodiaq703-21-07, 03:28 PM | Cleaned up the OP a bit and made some changes. I removed the Psicraft reqiorement and adde a simple Craft requirement. I wasnted this class to be unique in that it doesn't need a specific Bab. I thought as this is a class based on crafting, it wouldn't come into play thematically, though I may reconsider that if it becomes necessary. |
| SlanderPanic03-21-07, 04:42 PM | I like it. If anything, I'd clear up the typos, change Fast Change to an immediate action at 5th level, and change the name of the class to Plasmo-Dermist. That'd make it easier to figure out the pronunciation. (It broke my brain for a little while.) |
| Ilikan Holyaxe03-22-07, 02:30 PM | You want to make it to tenth level? Hmm... What if you gave them the ability to create temporary skins at no cost, but take a significant period of time to prepare, say a day or so, say: Secrete Skin:"The Plasmodermist excretes psionic energy which substitutes as a psychoactive skin, a Plasmodermist of x level can create, at no gold or xp cost, a psychoactive skin which lasts for one week, or until dismissed. This skin takes 24 hours of solitary concentration to form, and is more unstable than real skins, and cannot survive being removed (you cannot put a secreted skin onto another character). You must meet the prerequisites of the crafting of a real skin of that type, not including the required item creation feats. A Plasmodermist can wear 1 secreted skin/x levels, and it counts towards your total limit of Psychoactive skins that you are allowed to wear." A little less reliance on the actual item in this, and you can give different bonuses to the secreted skin. |
| Zodiaq703-31-07, 03:45 PM | Haven't had time to make the Secrete Skin feature yet, but I did realize that the 3rd level power prerequisite was easily attainable by a psychic warrior. I say this because of hustle. It appears as a 3rd level power on the Egoist list, but as a 2nd level power on the PsyWar list. Also, Greater Concealing Amorpha, a 3rd level power on the Shaper & PsyWar list. So, I changed it back. I should have example builds(WARNING: I do not tend to optimize)up by 4/3/07; also, shameless bump. |
| Zodiaq704-05-07, 02:52 PM | Okay, actually READ expanded knowledge, made a slight change. Got 2 of the 3 builds done & am working on a 10 level version of this class with the "secrete skin" ability. Feel free to post your own plasmodermist builds while I tinker about. I'd love to see what you folks can do with this thing. |
| Moosh Nailo04-08-07, 07:57 PM | Cool stuff. Also really like Ilikan Holyaxe's "Secrete Skin" idea. Otherwise you are completely reliant on those few items, which is never healthy. |
| Zodiaq704-21-07, 02:25 PM | Still working on those builds. There's still space left to post your own. Also, shameless bump. :) |
