Would it be overpowered to add 2 to all the damage of rays and ranged touch attacks and when the manifestor expends their focus ADD their Prime Ability mod as well???

One of my Players is making an Ardent and we're tossing up which feats to take and if it's worth it. One of his primary mantles i energey and he's a bit bummed that Energy Missile isn't on the list. He wanted to take Priveledged Energy...

In looking around I saw power specialization has a similar mechanic and figured it probably wouldn't be too overpowered. I'm the most familiar with Psionics in my group having played a PsyWar recently and being the only psionicist player in 2e!!! Since you in community have probably seen if this is an abuse I ask your opinions.

If he wants Energy Missile, why not just have him take Expanded Knowledge: Energy Missile? It takes an additional feat, but its pretty good considering its an energy power.

But no. Doesn't sound all that strong. Would it work just like Warmage's edge? i.e. effect everyone in a radius, but not apply extra damage to two Energy Rays from a split ray?

I was thinking it'd almost be exactly like a Warmage's edge thematically. But seeing as he must expend his focus to get the ability mod to damage it wouldn't be too overpowered. I mean it costs a full round action (or a move and a feat) to focus so it probably shouldn't be too much to add it to split rays.

He's only 5th level so Expanded Knowledge is on hold till at least next level. We're just building him so it's our first go at an Ardent.

Neraph (PlH) Ardent 5 CG
Primary mantles: Energy and Freedom
Secondary:Life (2nd) and Good (5th)

I don't really see a problem with it. Its a fairly underpowered feat anyway. And actually it'd take him 2 feats (Psicrystal and Psicyrstal Containment) to get it to Split Ray or such anyway.

Would it only work on powers normally subject to Power Specialization? Or all energy powers? Either way I don't see a problem with it.

Though honestly, no matter how thematic it might be for the character, I'd recommend against Energy being a primary mantle. Its not bad for a secondary mantle, but do you really want almost half of your powers to be a slight variation of doing the same thing?
