So I was snooping around for a few ways to improve a soulbow character I had in mind when I came across this lovely little feat in Dragon 341. Practiced mind blade in a nutshell allows you to summon a blade at +4 your souldknife level. Now this is incredibally good in itself but I got to thinking, does this also count for the arrows from soulbow? Same deal, diffrent weapon right?

I was wondering because this character was going to multi into something else and the enhancements would make her just about on par with some of our other toons.

While I'm on the topic of the mind arrows anyways, what is the verdict on the kensai adding his enhancements to mind arrows? For all the bleach fans out there I always pictured the soulbow to manifest a "Quincy bow" to fire the arrows from (I hate that soulbow picture with a passion. It just doesn't make any sence for pew pew lazers, fired from your hand, to be in this game). Either way my DM allowed it if I manifested the bow to "enhance" the arrows. I was just curious if there was an offical responce that said one way or another.

As written, I don't think Practiced Mind Blade can be applied to the Soulbow's mind arrows. The enhancement bonuses to attack and damage rolls from the Soulknife class stack with those gained from Soulbow, although the enhancement qualities (like Psychokinetic) do not. I'd suggest discussing it with your DM, though.

I can't see anything that stops you from choosing Mind Arrow or Mind Blade as a Kensai's signature weapon, and I'm pretty sure imbuing the weapon stacks with any enhancements gained through the Soulknife and Soulbow classes. (It's probably appropriate to treat the mind blade as a natural weapon for the purpose of imbuing it, or as a pair of natural weapons if you have the Shape Mind Blade class feature.) You shouldn't be able to imbue the weapon to a higher value than +10 (+5 enhancement/+5 abilities), but if you might be able to imbue it to a +10 weapon and then gain more levels of Soulknife/Soulbow and wind up with an Epic weapon.

The enhancement bonus (+x mind blade) also increases the enhancement bonus of the mind arrow. The special abilities, (mind blade enhancement +x) do not apply to mind arrows.

The signature weapon must be masterwork, and neither mindblades nor mindarrows are masterwork. If you allow it, the kensai ability works just like it does for increasing the bonus an any weapon that already has a bonus. You pay for the increase, instead of the total bonus.

The signature weapon must be masterwork if it was manufactured. I don't think Mind Blades are "manufactured".

Thanks for the anwsers guys.

I was actually using crimson's arguement with a couple of the other players and the DM. The mindblade isn't manufactured. It's almost the same thing as a natural weapon. The kensai states that natural weapons are allowed so it would only be fair to assume that the mindblade is in the same boat.

I guess I was just looking for a way to squeeze as much as possible to actually get a really useful character. Doing the Kensai thing I might be able to convince the DM to let me take splitting for the mind arrows.

So as for the practiced mind blade, you're saying that the weapon bonus is ok but the enhancements are out? I thought both stacked with soulknife to determine what bonuses the arrows had. Is that not the case then? Also, theres the line that says mind arrows are treated like they were a mind blade in the case of feats like weapon specialization ect. Does this only work for some and not all?

Thanks again for the help thus far.

The enhancements are out.

Practiced Mindblade isn't "a feat like Weapon Focus." By "a feat like Weapon Focus" they mean feats you have to choose a specific weapon for. You don't choose a specific kind of weapon for Practiced Mindblade, it just affects your class features. You can't take Practiced Mindblade (Battle Axe).
