| AskaniPsion02-15-08, 12:45 AM | I am making a new Seer who specializes in precognitive foresight type of powers. My DM allows me to adapt arcane spells into psionic powers if they are balanced. I found this great precognitive type power in Player's Handbook II called "Insight of Good Fortune". Perfect for a Precog - the spell allows you to target others but I want the spell to be a power that ONLY affects myself. It would have the same duration also. I want to keep the power balanced - if I make it "self" only, would it be balanced to make it a 1st level Seer only power or do you still think it should stay a 2nd level Seer power? The way I see it, 1st level "Mindlink" power has an spell version and that is 3rd or 4th level (forget which it is) so i don't think it would be unbalanced to just reduce the "Insight" spell to a 1st level power. Could others give me their opinion on it? Thanks for any help with this. |

Alot of spells such as freedom of movement, energy adaption, fly, etc, are all self-only spells even though their magical equivalents can target others. Without knowing more about the spell, I'd recommend leaving it as level 2, but still making it self-only. Sometimes, very rarely, a psionic power will indeed be slightly better than it's magical counterpart (the example of mindlink vs. Rary's telepathic bond is pretty fair, as would be psionic dominate vs. dominate person), but this is by no means the standard. Amongst the core powers, it seems like if a power is lower level than its magical equivalent, it has to be exceedingly appropriate to psionics, to the point of almost being the defining power of the discipline. Is that the case here? |

Is that the case here? I consider it very defining for a Seer only power - there is already a power called Second Chance which allows a Seer to reroll a die roll and there Fate of One power which allows a Seer to immediately reroll a failure so I think the power I wanted to add is very defining and very appropriate to the Seer only list. |

A conversion that makes it personal only seems a bit underpriced in comparison to second chance, but that's arcane magic for you. Go for it. You won't destroy the game with this power. |
| Lycanthromancer02-16-08, 12:45 PM | Isn't it wonderful how we still sometimes have people coming in here saying 'psionics is overpowered'? Especially since magic now has all but a small handful of psionic abilities, and nearly every single one of them have their subjective power levels increased dramatically. Oh well. Granted, those people don't come in here nearly as often anymore. ...I wonder why. |
| AskaniPsion02-16-08, 12:55 PM | Isn't it wonderful how we still sometimes have people coming in here saying 'psionics is overpowered'? I started a new group and when the Wizard character heard I was playing a psionic character, the first thing out of his mouth was "psionics are overpowered". Boy that ticked me off. Then he started telling other new players what feats and spells they HAVE to take - well I told him to worry about his own character and let players choose what THEY want to choose. All night he kept threatening people that he was going to Fireball everyone and he is only 1st level. Well guess what character is NOT going to be rescued when he is surrounded by enemies......;) It was very cool too seeing all the player's faces when I used Up The Walls to run up the side of a building! :D I love Psionics! :) Thanks everyone for their input....I much appreciate it. I always try to keep everything balanced. I always felt the Seer's discipline powers were lacking compared to the others so I felt a psionic version of "Insight" would make a great addition. Usually i make telepaths but decided to try a Seer. |

For a prestige class, I am adapting the original version of the 3.0 Zerth Cenobite from Dragon Magazine - the 3.5 version is awful and really lost the flavor of the original. The original really ties in the precognition and roll-altering abilities of a Seer perfectly. never actually tried the Share Pain with the psi-crystal though I have seen it mentioned many times |
