| CrimsonDeath03-31-08, 02:55 AM | There aren't really any rules on that. Since the psicrystal is the result of a feat, and corpses don't have feats, one way to handle it would be to have the psicrystal become an intert lump of rock (or dissipate into ectoplasm, or otherwise return to the state it was in before the character obtained it) when the character dies, and then return to a functional state when the character is returned to life. Another way to handle it would be for the psicrystal to retain the personality fragment invested in it, but lose whatever sense of moderation it had due to its telepathic link to its master. That might be interesting, but it's also likely to be disruptive in a lot of games, and there's less rules support for it. |
| Moosh Nailo03-31-08, 04:59 PM | I think it depends on the campaign, they players and the DM. If they think it would be fun to have a rogue psicrystal running around, then why not? Like CrimsonDeath said, there aren't any rules regarding this question either way, so go for it. I've always wanted to try a level where the PCs have been captured, but their psicrystals/familiars/animal companions are free and have to go through a dungeon on their own in a quest to free their masters. Fun, no? |
| Jaid03-31-08, 05:19 PM | DSP has rules for this (in psicrystals expanded, naturally ;) ) of course, that's third party... you may wish to take baby steps though, given many groups have an irrational hatred of 3.5 psionics based on a perfectly rational hatred of 2nd ed psionics =P (ie just getting the expanded psionics handbook is a good start) =P |
| AntiDjinn03-31-08, 05:25 PM | Since the pet rock is actually formed from its master's psyche, I have always figured that if a manifester has died, and the party still has his psicrystal (even if it has none of the characteristics granted by the feat Psicrystal Affinity) then they have a piece of him for purposes of Resurrection. |
| TifRhal03-31-08, 05:35 PM | Thanks for the info . this is the idea i had make a hideaway weapon from races of the wild in the hilt of the weapon set your psi crystal in it with a small section exposed. since the hilt and crystal only have about a 1 lbs wieght. I was thinking of using the weapon as a scout seeing thru your psi crystal whats ahead then once you get the level were your crystal can fly use it to fly up in the air see whats around. the hideaway makes the hole thing the size of a 6 inch cylinder you could load it in the sleeve sheath from complete scoundrel. |
| deadkoo03-31-08, 05:50 PM | number 1 i am derunk. nu,,mber 2: the rules for psy crystals are VERY vague. ask your DM. |

| MnemonicSV04-01-08, 03:35 AM | Well... that depends on where the character's soul goes when he dies. I only say this because petitioners of Elysium can retain up to four class levels upon becoming a petitioner, and as such could well retain their Psicrystal Affinity feat if it were taken in the early levels. So, if a psicrystal's master dies, but the psicrystal remains active, at least now you know where it's master went in the afterlife. :D |

At least now they've acknowledged the 100+ people who must have asked that question... |
