| heavenisme12-27-07, 01:41 PM | Noob Question: I have a 10th level psion. Can I manifest powers through my Psicrystal not as a shared power? Can my psicrystal scout a room 40ft away and then manefest a power for me? For example energy burst target of my crystal? |
| Bacris12-27-07, 02:37 PM | What you want is Channel Power, and is not available until 15th level (or if you take several Improved Psicrystal feats) Channel Power (Sp): If the owner is 15th level or higher, he can manifest powers through the psicrystal to a distance of up to 1 mile. The psicrystal is treated as the power’s originator, and all ranges are calculated from its location. When channeling a power through his psicrystal, the owner manifests the power by paying its power point cost. He is still subject to attacks of opportunity and other hazards of manifesting a power, if applicable (for instance, he becomes visible when manifesting an offensive power if invisible, as does the psicrystal) |
| Lycanthromancer12-27-07, 02:53 PM | It'll require a lot of feats, but you can do it. Depending on the build, this kind of concentrated effort could definitely be worth it. (IE, using your psicrystal to tank, or using it as an invisible sniper.) Note that your psicrystal's HD go up if you use this feat. It gains medium BAB, as well as feats (if your DM doesn't rule otherwise). 'Tis a nice benefit, really. |
| heavenisme12-27-07, 05:53 PM | How about using metamorphisis on it? then sicking it on one of my enemys? At 10th level wouldn't that work? It says it can automatically use the same powers as you or you can use the psicrystal as the target instead....Eh? |
| hovnarr12-27-07, 05:57 PM | That works fine. In my campaign, my big bad neutral guy interacts with the party using his psicrystal metamorphed to himself. Or rather, to the "self" he was before he mind switched a hellwasp swarm. Being a swarm makes you less sociable, dontchaknow. |
| Bacris12-27-07, 07:26 PM | How about using metamorphisis on it? then sicking it on one of my enemys? At 10th level wouldn't that work? It says it can automatically use the same powers as you or you can use the psicrystal as the target instead....Eh? Sure, as long as it stays within 5' of you... |
| Lycanthromancer12-27-07, 09:55 PM | You can use powers as 'touch' powers instead of personal, and the crystal doesn't have to stay nearby. The only time you need it close is if you share the effects between the both of you. Don'tchanknow. Or, you could have enough instances of Improved Psicrystal to make it a moot point until you get enough levels to psychically reform them away (not that you'd want to; by that point, it's an epic level psicrystal with 21+ HD). |
| Bacris12-28-07, 03:53 AM | Good point, if you only affect the crystal and not yourself, as well. |
| Scion of Coldshard12-28-07, 04:07 AM | Note that your psicrystal's HD go up if you use this feat. Why would the psicrystals hd increase by use of the feat? The feat increases the effective level of the character for certain bonuses but the psicrystals hd are equal to the owners number of hd. While they do play a little too fast and loose with their wordings across the various parts I dont see any reason to assume that the feat would increase the psicrystals actual amount of hd. |
| heavenisme12-28-07, 04:38 AM | So if you manifest Dissipating Touch through your own powers since it shares powers can it also strike your foe in the same round using it's shared powers? Also can your psicrystal duplicate attacks, for example I attack with an energy ray while my psycrystal is on my shoulder, does it fire one two? I manifest hammer, does it also do so? I attack with a energy ray while it comes swooping in for a Dissipating Touch attack.... I do a melee strike while my psicrystal manifests a power? Does any of the above work? |
| Bacris12-28-07, 08:48 AM | So if you manifest Dissipating Touch through your own powers since it shares powers can it also strike your foe in the same round using it's shared powers? No. See the bolded points below for why. Dissipating Touch Psychoportation (Teleportation) Level: Psion/wilder 1, psychic warrior 1 Display: Auditory and visual Manifesting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Target: Creature or object touched Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: None Power Resistance: Yes (object) Power Points: 1 Your mere touch can disperse the surface material of a foe or object, sending a tiny portion of it far away. This effect is disruptive; thus, your successful melee touch attack deals 1d6 points of damage. Augment: For every additional power point you spend, this power’s damage increases by 1d6 points. Share Powers (Su): At the owner’s option, he can have any power (but not any psi-like ability) he manifests on himself also affect his psicrystal. The psicrystal must be within 5 feet of him at the time of the manifestation to receive the benefit. If the power has a duration other than instantaneous, it stops affecting the psicrystal if it moves farther than 5 feet away, and will not affect the psicrystal again, even if it returns to its owner before the duration expires. Additionally, the owner can manifest a power with a target of “You” on his psicrystal (as a touch range power) instead of on himself. The owner and psicrystal cannot share powers if the powers normally do not affect creatures of the psicrystal’s type (construct) Also can your psicrystal duplicate attacks, for example I attack with an energy ray while my psycrystal is on my shoulder, does it fire one two? As above, no. Energy ray is not a power that affects you, it is a power you manifest. Simply because you manifest a power doesn't mean the psicrystal receives the benefits of it, too, it has to fit the criteria of share powers. I manifest hammer, does it also do so? It would be affected by hammer, as long as it was within 5 feet. It does not "manifest" hammer. Hammer Psychometabolism Level: Psion/wilder 1, psychic warrior 1 Display: Auditory and material Manifesting Time: 1 standard action Range: Personal Target: You Duration: 1 round Power Points: 1 This power charges your touch with the force of a sledgehammer. A successful melee touch attack deals 1d8 points of bludgeoning damage. This damage is not increased or decreased by your Strength modifier. Augment: For every additional power point you spend, this power’s duration increases by 1 round. I attack with a energy ray while it comes swooping in for a Dissipating Touch attack.... No. Neither of those powers target "You" and are therefore not shared. I do a melee strike while my psicrystal manifests a power? How is your psicrystal "manifesting" a power? in all of the above scenarios, the psion is the one manifesting, not the psicrystal. The psion is simply affecting the psicrystal. The only time a psicrystal can actually manifest is after 21st level, when Psicrystal Power comes into play. In all situations before that, the psion is manifesting and the psicrystal is either channeling the power or recieving the benefit of the power, it is not the one CREATING the effect. Does any of the above work? Only the hammer idea. |
| InkBlot12-28-07, 01:35 PM | Only the hammer idea (works). It doesn't work if you use the errata. Hammer Psychometabolism Level: Psion/wilder 1, psychic warrior 1 Display: Auditory and material Manifesting Time: 1 swift action Range: Touch Duration: 1 round Saving Throw: None Power Resistance: Yes Power Points: 1 This power charges your touch with the force of a sledgehammer. A successful melee touch attack deals 1d8 points of bludgeoning damage. This damage is not increased or decreased by your Strength modifier. Augment: For every additional power point you spend, this power’s duration increases by 1 round. |
| Bacris12-28-07, 02:51 PM | It doesn't work if you use the errata. Was that errata in CPsi? The reason I ask is I was using the WotC SRD when I did the look up... Odd. |
| InkBlot12-28-07, 02:56 PM | I looked it up in the actual errata file for the XPH (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/ExpPsiHdbk_Errata02062006.zip). But it's in the SRD (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/psionicPowersGtoP.html#hammer) I use as well. |
| Bacris12-28-07, 03:00 PM | Strange. Good to know! In that case, none of the scenarios above work. |
