Psi Crystals and Cerebremancers [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-13-07, 12:27 AM I have a quick question (they never are ?). I am thinking starting a new character. The new character will be a grey elf. I am planning to advance as a wizard 3 / Erudite 3 and then to go into Cerebremancer. I understand that the Familiar would only have 3rd level abilities, because its abilities are a function of a class feature, which is based on Wizard level. How would this work with a Psi Crystal? Under the description on page 22 of the Exp it says, “ A psi crystal’s abilities are based on levels the owner has in psionic classes.” I noticed the use of plurals there. However, it seems the text contradicts itself. On page 142 of the Exp in the description of the Cerebremancer it says “He does not however gain any other benefit a character of either class would have gained (Bonus metamagic, Metapsionic or item creation feats, psi crystal special abilities and so on)."
Which part of the text do I follow? Is there a rule of thumb for interpretation? Is there a rule of thumb for taking some text over another? What if a table and text contradict itself? What if there is something listed in a table, but it is not defined in the text? For example on page 15 of the complete psionic, there is a reach attack augment listed for 8 level, but it isn’t defined in the text? What is a confused player to do? Thank you.

07-13-07, 08:58 AM Just tell your GM that either your psi-crystal advances for each level that increases psionic manifesting powers or you'll give it leadership and mounted combat instead, because that's what the rules say. :-)
